PERIPATETIC FANS
Jean Weber writes from the remote town of Innaminka, South
Australia, that she and Eric Lindsay are working on their GUFF report,
despite being in the wilds of outback Australia without any convenient
way to upload new stuff to their website. However, they did raise some
money for GUFF by auctioning a book, and are looking forward to hearing
from more people who want books from the list on their GUFF site,
http://www.ericlindsay.com/guff/
Jean reports that the nights are cold but the days beautiful, and the
dirt roads are in much better condition that they expected. They have
been visiting all the pubs they can find in remote areas and are taking
lots of photos. She is hoping to get an issue of their Avalook travel
newsletter out soon, despite the Internet access problem. Look for it
at http://www.avalook.com.au/
CONVENTION NEWS
Mathew Frank notes "The July BOBW convention's guests seem to
have been migrated to the Buffy convention later in the year (BOBW13)
with Anthony Steward Head (Giles)." Edwina Harvey writes "Write (C)on
guest speakers include Simon Brown (author of Privateer, Winter and
Inheritance), Marilyn Pride (writer, illustrator and artist) and Lewis
Morley (special effects artist and self publisher) other commitments
permitting. Write (C)on now also has a web site at:
http://members.optushome.com.au/aussff/Writecon.html."
Conscript notes that, since there was no 2002 Conquest Committee
elected, the 2001 Conquest may be the last one.

Julian Warner reports on the Nova Mob "due to foreshadowed
ceiling renovations, the next Nova Mob meeting will be moved to the
house of Andrew McCrae and Sarah Marland. We will be meeting on Weds 1
August at 8.00pm at: 145 Blyth St, East Brunswick. The house is about
100m from the corner of Blyth and Lygon Sts. Catch the No.1 or No.22
tram to get to the Blyth/Lygon corner - look for the Caltex petrol
station. Those who are driving may wish to bring a folding chair or two
just in case we are short of seating.
Next week's speaker is still Andy Butler as programmed. We were going
to have Garth Nix along as well but he is now unavailable. Further
months: September - Pam McIntyre on Harry Potter; October - Ian Mond on
Stephen King and why he wants to have his babies (with parsley);
November - Roselyn Gross on Diana Wynn-Jones; December - the Nova Mob
