ANTIFAN MOVIES
Mark Loney has been investigating ways of preserving the Antifan
Movies, made to promote the 1975 and 1983 Australian Worldcon bids.
The films themselves are starting to decay and Mark has people at
SoundScreen Australia (SSA - aka the National Film and Sound
Archive), looking at them with a view to preserving them. There may
be a need to raise some funds to rescue the films. More information
as it comes to hand.
BULLSHEET MEDIA WATCH
Jane Tisell has a letter about Lexx in The Age Green Guide 11/1/2001
ON THE AIR
The producers of Smeg Radio provided the following "Smeg Radio!
Sydney's only SF, fantasy and cult TV radio program recently was
awarded a Community Broadcasting Association of Australia award for
best spoken word program in Australia.
We have been on-air in Sydney for nearly five years bringing you the
best and latest news and interviews from the SF and fantasy world.
This year coming up we have interviews with: George RR Martin,
Robert Silverberg and Tess Williams (we hope!).
Smeg Radio! 2RRR 88.5fm Wednesdays 6.30pm - 8pm"
This announcement led to a discussion of the term smeg on aus.sf.
For the benefit of those uninitiated, it is an abbreviation for
smegma, which is, according to my dictionary, "The sebaceous (fatty)
substance secreted under the foreskin." Aren't you glad you asked?
PERISTALTIC FANS
Chris Lawson notes "After a week of a viral gastroenteritis going
through the family just before Christmas, I had a perforated
appendicitis on New Year's Eve necessitating an emergency operation
and four days in hospital. I'm OK. Still sore as hell, but at least
I can get out of a chair now without thinking some demon is
skewering my innards with a serrated blade. I expect to lose two
weeks' work, but after that should make a decent recovery." Like a
true science fiction fan, Chris noted that the enforced sedentary
life meant that he managed to catch up on some reading.
NON-PERIPATETIC FANS
David Russell writes to explain that, for a complex assortment of
reasons, Les Robertson is still in prison.
FAN FUNDS
Cathy Cupitt notes " I have copies of Janice Gelb's DUFF trip report
available for A$6.50 if you are interested in finding out what she
thought of Oz - sounds like she had a bloody good time :)" Cathy
Cupitt P.O. Box 915 Nedlands W. A 6909.
