In 'lost tales' they were using a new drive system that took them into a
blue/white realm [quantum space] looking ominously like 'thirdspace'.
In 'Thirdspace' Dr. Trent turned over all her research to Sheridan.
Might some of her conclusions led to the development of the Quantum
Drive system? How many cultures had the system? was it a Minbari/IA
monopoly? The Gate System was set up to open up to
'Quantum Space'. could they switch back and forth to conventional
Hyperspace?
How did Quantum Space affect telepaths?
Why hadn't the Shadows or Vorlons [or other first ones] developed the
system?
lots of questions, JMS!

It's a while since I've watched or read any Babylon 5, and so I can't answer
any of the above questions.

OTOH I hope there is further discussion here.

wow!
an actual response.
i x-posted this to most of the b-5 usenet groups i coul find listed on
my server. this is the ONLY serious response i have. most of the other
b5 groups are dead or spammed out or full of posters who have formed
their own little cliques and either ignore you or drive you out.

That's very disappointing.
Replying in the hope that someone eventually sees these posts.

I loved Babylon 5 at the time it was being aired, but my memory of it has
faded a lot.
I was also disapponted at the cancellation of Crusade.
I did read some Babylon 5 stories, but cannot do so now due to vision
prioblems.

I'm still vaguely hanging around :) Rewatching B5 on DVD at the moment
(halfway through Season 2) and still enjoy the show.

May I suggest that you check out the Babylon Podcast at
http://www.babylonpodcast.com

They've been going for almost 5 years now, and have done analysis on all
five seasons (now up to the telemovies) and have had many many
interviews with cast and crew. This is mostly possible because one of
the co-hosts is Jeffrey Willerth, who was Production Assistant on the
show and also the guy in the Kosh suit! They even got JMS on for a 2
hour interview at one point, which is pretty impressive.

When the Lost Tales DVD came out, the podcast team also did a fairly in
depth discussion on it, but I'm not sure they mentioned anything about
the whole Quantum space thing. I never really gave it much though myself
either.

Anyway, if you're a fan, the B5 Podcast is brilliant (although you might
want to start at the beginning, or just pick and choose episodes with
analysis or interviews you want to listen to). There's also forums
at their website where you can propose your question too.

Also don't forget www.b5books.com who are a team who've been releasing
Babylon 5 scripts over the past few years. Now they've moved beyond
scripts and have various other books available too. Crusade script books
should start being released later this year.

So... B5 fandom is still out there, but it's not on newsgroups any more :)

Seeya. Danny.

Thanks for the links Danny, great stuff!
My son and I work through the 5 seasons on DVD every few years (we've just
started season 5 on this go round)
and still find it enthralling.
Cheers.

(Sorry if I have the attribution wrong above :-) )

Great reply about the podcasts, I have them and they are very interesting.

Regarding newsgroups, I've been a subscriber since its inception to
rec.arts.sf.tv.babylon5.moderated

May I suggest you try there? It is moderated (as jms reads it), but in
the years I've been reading it, I find the posters friendly and helpful.

I'm not sure if this is one of the groups that you have tried that you
find cliquey, I hope not, I find them very welcoming.

Kerry (been watching B5 since the first season screening on Channel 7
(later seasons aired on Channel 9))
