The Glasgow Herald reported on 10 December 1983 that HMS Invincible's Sea Harriers "destroyed wave after wave of attacking Australian planes" in an exercise off Australia in 1983.

Does anybody have any detail about this exercise?

I have no recollection of these events (I was in the RAAF from 78~87, working on
Mirages).

I asked on an ex-RAAF Facebook page, and the consensus was that no one else had
heard of any events as described. There were exercises involving the Invincible
and Harriers, but the supposed score line was roundly rejected.

Thanks for sharing that.

" They were pretty much dreaming. They got the F-111s when they were being some other aircraft. As soon as the Pigs went into down and wet mode things changed completely. I've actually seen the full exercise report. It was a standard one where the RN played at having the capabilities of Red Force and the RAAF played as Blue, and then vice versa, then they both went full out at each other.

In the case of the RAAF being Red force they were mimicking the PLAAF and it's then very limited capabilities. "
