In the interests of common decency, I sent the recent thread on the Railfan Shop
to Albert. He has asked me to post the following on his behalf. I can vouch
for the authenticity of this one!

-------------

This is from Albert - the REAL Albert Isaacs this time!

What better way is there of responding to criticism of The Railfan Shop than
inviting you to come into the shop and see for yourself what the service is
REALLY like?

To encourage everyone into the shop, I will be offering a 10% discount off all
items except those already on special - all you need to do is mention aus.rail
and you're entitled to this discount. For obvious reasons, don't mention
aus.rail until after you've seen what our service is really like and you're
ready to pay. The offer will apply until 10th December 1999 - this is ideal
timing to give you the opportunity of buying Christmas presents at a docount -
presents for yourself and presents for other railfans.

This 10% discount applies to established clients as well as to new friends.

The Railfan Shop is at 40 Market Street, Melbourne - right on the corner of
Market Street and Flinders Lane.

To all those who don't live in Melbourne, this offer can also apply to you.
Visit our Website at http://railfan.webmania.com.au/ fax or post your order to
us before 10th December and you can also take advantage of the 10%. I will
usually post items within 24 hours, and guarantee to post any item in stock
within 48 hours.

See you in the shop,

Albert,
The Railfan Shop Manager.

I've already been in there and I don't like Albert shouting at me from the other
side of the room. I don't mind if he waves or quietly says hello to me but shouting
it from the other side of the room is extremely annoying. Especially when he repeats
it until you shout back at him. The service is also rather poor and the product
range isn't anywhere near as big as it used to be.

I can already get this discount as an ARE member. I would guess that many people on
aus.rail are also members so they can also get the discount. So this isn't much of
an offer if you are an ARE member.

I used to be a regular client of the railfan shop until Albert became the manager.
While I don't agree with posting messages like the one that started this thread,
Albert's customer service really isn't the best. If his customer service was any
good, nobody would have posted something like that. You don't see people writing
similar things about the other shop owners/managers in Victoria. He should go into
some of the other hobby shops and see how they treat their customers.

James,
Does this mean you can do a better job? Perhaps the ARE board would
like to hear from you when Albert's tenure is up.
Having seen some of the average Victorian gunzels in action perhaps
Albert needs to shout because(a) that way he can get the message across and
it sinks in or (b) he does not want to stand too close for fear of catching
something!
As an ARE member you are only entitled to 10% off selected items. I
think we are being offered 10% across the board until December 10
irrespective of the item,I certainly will be taking advantage of this and I
suggest you do the same for a once in a millenium sales opportunity.

Cheers

Noel Forster (ARE member since 1968)

He does a good job running the shop but his customer service skills need a bit
of improvement. Personally I wouldn't want that job. What happened to the
previous manager? I've forgotten his name but he was much better than Albert.

1. He does not need to shout at me repeatedly because I can understand what he
says the first time and it sinks in fine.2. I am not an average Victorian
gunzel!
3. I don't carry any contagious diseases :-)

There isn't that much in there worth buying any more. I get all the magazines I
want on subscription and I have all of the books that I want out of the most
recently published ones. As for video, I am taking enough of my own. For
someone like me I really don't see the point of spending about $40 for a video,
especially when I'm not 100% happy with the quality of some of them currently
on sale.

Do'h, I'm only a member since 1995! :-)

Tom Clark. I agree that his personal skills were much better.
