Malcolm has a simpler and cheaper plan. One of his mates bought Nathan
Tinkler's horse stud.

How many times have we previously heard talk about another proposed plans
for a VFT? I imagine it would be close to a dozen times now. NSW Labour made
a habit of announcing new train lines (which ended up never seeing the light
of day) at every election until the electorate simply became immune to this
bullshit.

A VFT with 16 stops to Melbourne?
Sounds to me it's for voters not passengers?

It appears the whole pointless waste of money on yet another fast train
study (which included not just station layouts, but toilet locations
therein[*]) was to appease the Greens so that they'd support the
minority government.

Were any attempt actually to be made to build such a railway, a
different group of Greens could be relied on to oppose it on
environmental grounds. There's nothing like a big infrastructure project
to cause the discovery of any number of previously unknown frogs.

Sylvia.

[*] Seriously - I kid you not - they really did identify where toilets
would go in the new stations.

That would be the 'Green and Gold Bell Frog'. These things are notorious for
turning up at just about every building project. I think the green groups
must have a breading colony of these things, which are released at the most
suitable time during the environmental assessment.

Yes, that 16 stops would take a big bite out of the magical 3 hours trip.
I suspect your correct about all this being for voters and not passengers.

Yup; build toilets and lock them up.

Anyway, the study was only ever intellectual class welfare aimed at reinforcing
Juliar's claim that university graduates earn more. She will further reinforce
that claim by allowing auto industry tradeswomen to gravitate to the hotel
cleaning jobs presently done by 457 workers.

The map misses out Campbelltown!!!!!!
Apparently they have decided on 16 stops of 20 proposed

They won't get votes from Labor heartland with no Campbelltown.
Do all the toilets face Mecca! Or will they lose the Moslem vote?

Clearly, such a train could not stop frequently.

I noticed in the report a comment about having high-speed commuter
services from Newcastle to Sydney. Just what you need with a high-speed
rail line - cluttering it up with short distance traffic that is then
politically impossible to remove later when demand for long distance
services picks up, requiring the capacity occupied by the commuter services.

Not that it matters, given that we know it'll never be built.

Sylvia.

Labor Heartland? both federal and state member are liberal. What labor
heartland?

I notice the Federal liberal member has joined the "its a koala killer"
bandwagon for this version.

An Australian Very Fast Train will only happen after we've been taken over ( by cash buy out, not military action) by the Chinese.
And they will just draw a straight line on the map and turn out the 'dozers.
