$300.00 for a PLASTIC, poly-u and metal kit that makes up ONE carriage -
Surely that cant be right?
Christ on a cruller.... I think Ill scrap any ideas for a string of 8. Or
even 4...

When I saw the price I thought that I was seeing things too.
For an 8-Car set it is marginal. For a single car: good luck to them.

First off Iron Horse Models were not making kits 25 years ago. If
your think about it there were two brands Freemont and MR. We took over the
dies about 14 years ago after Freemont and MR had been making their kits for
some 26 years.
Secondly the price of the 4 car Suburban Body Kits are $37.30 They
are made with a completely different material.
Our Sydney Suburbans have been used on layouts at The Liverpool
Exhibition for several years.
This reminds me of the large Victorian layout that I seen at the
Camberwell Exhibition last time I was there. I asked the operator if he had
any Friedman MR or Iron Horse Models on the layout and was told that there
was none of that junk on here. I then asked him about a some of the models
and lo and behold He did have a lot of our kits on his layout in fact we
found something like 30 of our kits operating on the layout.

Thanks for that, I wondered where the Friedmont/MRC range had gone. They are
now the Iron Horse range. I built up quite a few of these years ago. They
take a bit more work than your average shake the box kit, but they are
better than starting from scratch, particularly if you need a largeish
number. They reward careful planning and finishing.
I have some questions about the models of the HO "sparks", which
contributors to this NG may be able to answer....
1. These are body kits. Are there sources of reasonably prototypical running
gear (bogies, pantographs)? The locos and freight wagons have a readily
adaptable supply, but what are people using for the sparks? In a 4-car set,
would one car with 2 spuds or black beetles do ok? Or should we look at
stretching a diesel mech?
2. As far as I can tell there was no such thing as "1932 stock". According
to a couple of sources (Keenan, Churchman) there was "1921 stock" AKA
"Bradfield" and "1927 stock" AKA "Standard". Is the F008 reference below
therefore models of Bradfields, and the F009 reference models of Standards?

3. If F009 are Standards, how is F014 different? Driving trailer?

stock" i.e. conversions from FO/BI steel-framed end-platform cars, not to be
confused with wooden (unsheathed) Bradfields. Confirmation?

5. Are refs F016 and F017 different to ref F008? If indeed F008 is not
Bradfields, then I guess this range does not include a Bradfield driving
motor, other than the parcel van offering.

attention to the spark models when these kits were on offer years ago..... I
was more intent on getting something together for the brass steamers to
pull.

I have not been following this page.... only because I have been busy
putting the quality (I want for my own self) into the Tulloch Power
Car. There are $95 worth of Australian - Steam Era Wheels Black
Beetle bogies under it, $45 worth of pantographs, some Ian Lindsay
castings will be in it (he still has not given me a price on these)...
$$$$ tied up in brass for the prototype and mould patterns.... $$$$
out in payroll to employees other than myself.... about four months of
my time........ all so I could have a couple of models for myself and
make them available to others. This was supposed to be a hobby for
me.
After this kit gets going, I will work up bogies for for a non-powered
kit and pricing.
As for the price of the kit.... Ian's 86 class loco sells for $250
WITHOUT $95 worth of pantographs. He is still making, packing and
posting them out to customers. I think this kit has been on the
market for three or four years.
This is my second kit. Every quality issue in the Tulloch Trailer kit
(my first kit) brought to me (not to everybody's mates) was addressed
to the customer's satisfaction. I take pride in the fact that I have
received prepaid orders for the Tulloch Power Car Kit. I am tempted
to scan and place on the net all the encouraging letters I have
received from customers. It was their encouragement that kept the
first kit going and kept me interested in proceeding to others. It
was the kindness of people in this hobby that got that first kit going
and I have tried to thank them.
