The RCI-2950 is a though one to beat.
A 'Superstar 7000' would have to be in the top three.

Damn Alan..you stole my thunder! My favourite is also the AX-144, bit
difficult to go "upstairs" on , but we wouldn't do that anyway...would
we?????(wink..wink..nudge nudge..LOL)

I believe, after owning or repairing almost every brand & model of CB radio
over the last 30-odd years, that the Johnson Viking 4740 was the best radio
to arrive on our shores. It was beautifully built, had a high quality PCB &
better than average components, had exceptionally clean transmit audio, and
a receive section second to none. They are collectors' items nowadays, and
are still fetching US$200 or more on the 'net, a sure sign that radio folks,
like others, respect quality when they see it. I wouldn't accept $500 for
mine. It sounds much nicer on air than most amateur rigs. After all, it was
purpose-built for 27 MHz, and sounds like it.

Hi all,
I'm looking for peoples opinions of the best performing CB ever in
Australia. When I say best performing, I don't mean "able to be tweaked for
max power and channels" (which doesn't interest me) - I more mean receiver
performance like sensitivity, selectivity / adjacent channel rejection,
noise levels; and nice sounding transmitter with good frequency & power
stability etc.
And next, dare I ask it, how does that sort of high-end CB compare with all
the so called 'export' CBs that I hear so many people rave about? I always
thought that my old Cobra 148GTL was pretty good (should never have sold it)
and now that my present PRO640e has been, ahem, 'borrowed' (Mr. Burglar - I
want it back, please!) I'm looking to get a new CB.
Old Grant? New Grant XL? (which appears to be identical to a dressed up
Cobra 148GTL to me - is that true?)
Another Cobra 148GTL?

Maybe, again, dare I say it, HR2510? RCI2950? (I've just been reading some
fantastic comments about the latest 2950DX with all it's receiver
improvements) Asking hypothetically you understand, of course....

I'd better not say or even think any more! Or the newly employed RI down
here might send me to jail for having illegal and lusty thoughts about
equipment I'm not supposed to have!

Ta - Jason

Well I was about to post the 2 best radio's I ever owned the first being one
of the very first 40ch SSB radios to come into the country it was back in
1976 and I was the first in our suburb to have 40ch's .... oh back to the
radio, it was a FANNON FANFARE ... what a radio this was easy to mod. lots
of power.
Then came the radio to beat all radio's the Johnson Viking. wish I still had
it ... today I run a stock standard Washing Base. ... oh the other radio I
had a moment in time to use but never owned :-(( was a CP400 now that i
would have loved to have a play with.
