Hi all,

I was playing around with the radio in my car and noticed that it was quite
good in picking up faint signals, and those I've never heard on my home
radio before and I would like help IDing what stations these are. Driving
around South-Western/Southern Sydney I can get these stations on my car
radio that I can't get at home:

102.1
102.9 - I think I heard an ad on this channel say "Moss Vale"?
106.1 - Plays Classical Music, ABC I think?
106.9
107.1

102.9, 106.1 come in relatively clear, 107.1 suffers interference from
107.3, and 102.1 is weak and I might have got 102.1 & 102.9 mixed up..

cheers,

These are the probable stations you received.

102.1 - Triple J Newcastle = High Power
102.9 - KOFM Newcastle = Lower Power
106.1 - ABC Classic FM Newcastle = High Power
106.9 - NXFM Newcastle / Community station in Wollongong = Lower Power
107.1 - Nothing = bad tuning of 107.3

Yes you probably did get 102.1 & 102.9 mixed up, 102.1 will be a
stronger/clearer signal in Sydney.
The ad on 102.9 could have been Elermore Vale, a suburb of Newcastle.

Hope that helps?
Some employees of KOFM & NXFM do know their signals reach Sydney & people
listening in around Campbelltown have been known to win phone in
competitions on both stations.
Triple M & Triple J Sydney, block the reception of Newcastle's other
commercial station NEW FM at 105.3.

102.9 could also be the 2ST translator at Bowral which would have ads
mentioning Moss Vale.

I can hardly get NEW FM anymore because of a HPON on 105.3 in Wollongong
which I can pick up quite well here in Windsor at times.

If you want to pick up KOFM here too, forget it. I haven't been able to
pick it up since 2ST Bowral moved from 1215AM to 102.9.

NXFM is the only one I can get now when the atmospherics are right.

I thought that was too unlikely since couldn't a 2DAY/2MMM person go
out instead then send it up to Newcastle.

In today's world of radio, I just thought it was too big budget to be
a possibility but it's a pleasant surprise.
