Anyone know where Bazz & Pilko are now? They once did breakfast on 2UW
back in the 80s and early 90s. I know that Pilko did some talkback in
sydney on 2ue in the summer time. I don't know about Bass.
I use to love to listen. Anyone remember the name of young guy's voice
who used to be on air with them? I think it was Bass or Pilko putting
on the voice. I got the funny calls on tape.

Check out http://www.5aa.com.au/programs.html
Pilko is now doing the breakfast show there with two others. He has
been with the station for many, many years.
Barry Iron (Bazz) was also with the station for quite a while too, I
believe he has left the radio industry.

Was it Garry Plus?

AKA Gary Jaegar :-)
So he is on talk radio! Cool... Oh wel,l Prob not as humerous as when
he was on 2UW. I used to like the news as well with Ross Symonds. This
type of breakfast show isn't around anymore. Did they get the axe from
UW? I remember Larry Emdur with a lady was there afterwards. Not as
good in my opinion. Anyone remember how well they rated?
Might try and listen online to 5aa tomorrow morning!
The Peter Plus character wasn't Gary Jaeger. I'm not sure which of the
two (Barry or Tony)did the voice. I have a idea it was Tony.
When discussing the whole Bazz and Pilko (and Plussy) show is should ne
noted that it originated in Adelaide in the '70s when they were on 5AD.
The UW thing came much, much later.

Interesting! When did it start in Sydney? Was it successful in Sydney?
I was a bit too young to follow ratings.
Even up to today I miss this style of breakfast show. I remember when
Bass and Pilko announced 2UW going FM. They didn't quite last that long
unfortunately.

They started in Jan/Feb '85 at "Better Music 2UW" and remained (I
think) until about 93/94. Tin Man: throw me a bone here. You'll know.
I seem to remember they did pretty well. Like, I don't think they were
world beaters in the surveys but they put on a good show for their
time.
They also put out several tapes (and CD's?) with some of their crazy calls
which were very funny.
As a teenager wanting to crack radio, I was fortunate to get on with the
guys well enough and sit in on the show many times. In fact I still blame
the 2 of them for infecting me with the 'radio' bug and ending up in the
industry.
Tin Man should be able to tell us more.....
Yes I got one of the tapes somewhere they were great. The prank calls
were great. I remember one of them pretending to live at Paddington and
complaining to the council about dogs "pooing" on the foot path. It was
really funny.
Ho hum they don't make radio like that anymore!

If memory serves me correct, 2UW suffered in the ratings during its
final year because 2WS made it to FM one year earlier than 2UW. In
fact, I think 2UW's move to FM got delayed as much as two and a half
years. Not sure why that was.
I remember tuning to 2UW in Melbourne at nights on an AM Stereo
reciever at the time and the station seemed to be heading towards a
Gold 104 style 'oldies' format in the final months before FM. That
turned out to be no indication of the Mix 106.5 format they would
launch instead.
