Thanks Keith, but I agree with Stephen Jolley at 3RPH, that at this stage it
isn't appropriate for their operation. Getting the Newspaper read on air is
much more responsible and effective for sight impaired listeners. I know a
little about it being married to one of the target audience.

Good to hear Mr S

Because they cost about US$8?? If anyone's looking for a serious
domain, get one with an au on the end.

What a load of bullshit.

Does it make one ounce of difference whether a site has a .net or .net.au
domain?

Not a jot.

Don't waste my time.

acutally, it DOES make a difference - but probably not in any ways that are
going to be important to this website... (you can acutally get .au domains
registered cheaply these days anyhow, if you know a web designer who won't
rip you off)

I wasn't having a go at you, just the idea that a ".net" URL denotes
any more stability, seriousness or otherwise than any other sort of
domain name.

Nearly every Australian focused company of any size or legitimacy has
a .com.au address. Groups like Telstra, Qantas etc can get away with
TLD .coms because they already have widespread recognition. A few
groups (ie www.cue.cc) go non-standard because they can't buy the
domain they want (although me remembering that shows it can have other
benefits...)

A .com.au address confers particular legitimacy because you have to
have an ABN to get one. Having one puts you in a club of businesses
with generally good practices (and half-decent websites).

Similarly, a .org.au requires government registration as a non-profit
group. The common TLDs (those without a country code on the end) have
no such checking involved, although some of the weird ones (like
.coop) do.

.net.au's may be able to be purchased by anyone, but because of the
general high quality of organisations behind .au addresses, a certain
level of legitimacy is confered. They also make a business look
Australian, which is a good thing if Australians make up the bulk of
your market.

OK I take your point Matt, and I really do have to keep in mind that a
comment is not an attack. We all wake up in a bad mood at times.

As the ANRN operation is not particularly huge at this point, I don't
believe having a non - .au address makes any great difference, other than
it's a bloody sight better than .tripod.com - which is where we have been
since we started.

Further down the track that's something that we may look at, but then I'd
like to, at some stage, start moving programming to radio stations across
the world, and if that were to happen then it would hardly be an issue at
all.

Simply put Matt, it's hardly somethiong for me to devote any time concerning
myself about, and certainly not something I would lose sleep over.
