In all this publicity etc surrounding 3AK 70th anniversary,
their rival 3AW has been quietly running a segment on
"Remember When" on Sunday nights called "the 3AW Story". I
only stumbled onto it tonight. Phillip Brady and Paul
Cronin talking to David Mann who is currently
behind-the-scenes at 3AW but has apparently been there for
many years and was talking about some of the old days. But
I didn't hear much, is this an ongoing segment for "Remember
When"? I'll have to listen next week.

Incidentally, 3AW's 70th Anniversary comes up in February.

Bruce Mansfield and Philip Brady started 'The 3AW Story' segment on
Remember When about five or six weeks ago. Guests have included
Margaret Ingram/St James/Peacock/Fletcher, Peter James, Rosemary
Margan, etc. David Mann is Marketing/Promotions Manager for 3AW/Magic
693, as well as outside interests with the Greyhound Racing Board and
Metropolitan Fire Brigade. He is probably longest serving exec. at
3AW, having started at Latrobe Street as an office boy.

He is now appearing on Yvonne Lawrence's Sunday evening
program on 3AK.

Thanks Ash, I'll be listening next Sunday. Hopefully 3AW
will give these segments a re-run when their 70th
anniversary arrives.

Clark Sinclair has not been on Remember When since about about 1990 when the
format was changed to mostly talk. He co-presented with the late Neville
Wragg through the 1980s.
Clark was also co-presenting the 3CR Sunday night nostalgia program with
Ralph Knight recently.
I spoke to David G Mann at the 3AW reunion in October and he said he had
been at the station since 1973. Apparently there are few people at 3AW these
days who have worked for the station for more than seven years.

Clark still runs his Radio School 3SA training tomorrows Jocks. I believe
some of his recent graduates include a news reader at 3AK/MP and a TV
Journalist in Taree.
Anyone interested in chatting to Clark about a career can look him up in the
phone book...well worth it as he is the only radio school in Melbourne
teaching voice production on a regular basis.

What's happened to the Gary Mac school?

He's been advertising the School on radio recently so it
must still be going, and when interviewed on 3AK's 70th last
week he mentioned that two of his recent graduates had just
scored jobs in commercial radio.
