I would have liked to have had some good news, along with the first round of
Football. It was time for each network to have someone on hand in the studio
and work with the footy feed they get
3SR in this case, during the Carlton and Richmond, were doing alright in the
first quarter along with 3BO. Quarter Times comes, and the usual ads come
on, and timed it wonderfully well to return to Triple M footy, but, the ads
kept going.....and going...in fact, after 7 rounds of ads, and the lead in
to the footy many times, 3SR finally did something about their situation.
Where the whole second quarter was a mix of ads and Triple M footy playing
at the same time.
For some strange reason, they decided to go with the Gold Coast feed, with
the High School Reunion on.
In an area like this, where Bendigo and Shepparton stations can both be
heard fairly well in each market and surrounding areas, it was probably a
good move to have some alternative programming on the stations, but on 3SR's
part, it was a technical error that showed that there was nobody in the
studio to stop those ads completely overriding the Second Quarter
They seem to be with the Geelong v Port Adelaide game, from Triple M
Adelaide at the moment, to their credit

By 3SR I take it you mean 3SR-FM? Not the old 3SR 1260 AM now broadcasting
as Sport (what a misnomer that is) 927 (another misnomer - what sort of call
is this!!!)
But anyway, a couple of weekends ago I was staying in Shep and dang it,
after a hard Sat night woke up on Sunday morning and decided to hear the
news. Blow me down, couldn't pick up 1026 Newsradio from Melbourne, so
started trolling the FM dial. Came across 3SR-FM sounding good - until the
top of the hour, 9am Sunday, when the ads ran right over the news and then
the news ran over the programming... For Goodness sake, if you've got a
licence surely SOMEBODY has to be on hand to avoid stupid stuff-ups like
this!!! If 3SR-FM was a local outfit doing its best for the community,
well, maybe I'd say, hey guys, do better next time. But if 3SR-FM is just
another networked station taking feeds from studios remote and unknown - why
don't the authorities give someone else a go!
Yours,

3SR in this case I refer to is 3SR FM, and 3BO as 3BO FM. I presumed
everyone just called them that, and not get confused by their AM frequencies
that are now on Sport 927
So, they've done it before, on a Sunday morning at 9am hey, sounds like
someone wanted a sleep in on that shift, or nobody was rostered on. Give a
work experience kid some lessons on how to work things, and I bet he'll do a
better job than the computer automation that seems to be playing ads over
important content
As for News Radio though, that's another issue, where they cant find a
suitable frequency to put the service on for the Goulburn Valley. I would
have suggested 100.9 FM, but somehow the ACMA might consider it an
interference with Wodonga's 100.7 TCBL
You've got to consider another thing in the process as well, being in Echuca
last week made me realise that Bendigo, Shepparton, Deniliquin and local
stations were all being heard, So this is why Bendigo doesn't have a News
Radio yet either, practically no space left
But that's going off topic
What's the population of Shepparton? Does the area it serves in population
with all towns included in their LAP add up for another commercial licence
being possible to give stuff ups like this a run for their money?
Shepparton-Mooroopna urban area - 40,000 (2006 Census)
Shepparton RA1 (inc. Shepparton, Mooroopna, Benalla, Seymour, Euroa,
Echuca, Tocumwal) - 160,000 (2001 Census)
Shepparton has 3 commercial radio stations (2 on FM - 3SR-FM & Star
FM), however, one of them is a relay station of Sport 927 (1260AM),
which has been mentioned here before.
To Ex-Engineer, for future reference, when you're next time in
Shepparton on a Sunday morning, listen to ABC Goulburn Murray on
97.7FM for news. ;-)

Hi RadEx
As it happened, not being a fan of Ian McNamara, I settled for Classic FM.
Interesting that I could receive it on two frequencies (I suspect the other
was Bendigo) with surprisingly much the same subjective quality.
Now RadEx, You may be able to answer a question for me. This ABC concept of
"Local Radio" has me a bit confused. Does the so-called "local" simply mean
the station is a "local" relay for programs originating elsewhere,
e.g.Melbourne/Sydney, or are there real bods in real studios promoting real
local stuff live to air most of the day?
