Skyhooks, and was never a fan of Shirl's Neigbourhood on
Channel 7. But I remember very fondly listening to the
"Shirl And Irvine" show which used to run weeknights 6-8pm
on 3XY. Used to hear it every evening.
And Shirl was part of MMM's Richard Stubbs Breakfast Show
too I recall before moving on to "Our House" and Triple M in
Brisbane.
It was a tough night tonight for Gavin Wood on his 3AK show
this evening. His show started at 6pm and it sounded as if
he himself only heard the news not long before going to air.
He was a longtime friend of Shirl's from the old Countdown
days. Both Gavin and callers on-air paid tributes to Shirl.

I was also too young to be really into the Hooks, but I remember the
Neighbourhood quite well.
I liked Claud the Crow and Ol' Poss the best.

I lived in Nimbin and surfed Kingscliff back when he worked at 2MW (which
used to be at Murwullimbah then - like the call sign suggests) doing Drive
(from memory).
Mad prick but he had that "sparkle" about him.
Could surf ok too.
