A question for TripleJ newsreaders (Karen Barlow in particular:)

Where is "New Souff Wales"? I gather from your news bulletins that it
is in some country called "Austrellia", which in turn is near another
country called "Antartica".

Is this country a "nukular" power? Do they have a foreign "secketary"?
Or perhaps a minister for "youf" affairs?

*sigh*

I love listening to JJJ, and I like to stay informed, but listening to
the news of a morning is giving me radio rage big time!

Am I too much of a pedant to expect newsreaders to know the
language???

I don't know if these are related, but I've noticed that Michael Tunn would
say "oh-so" when (I presume) he means "also". Some highschool students were
doing a program for us and I noticed that they were also saying "oh-so".

I personally like the way Karen Barlow reads the news (sadly enough, I find
"Austrellia" cute!) - however I am a fairly pedantic person at times and
some of the pronunciations make it hard to concentrate sometimes! :-)

Well, like it or not, it's comforting to know that someone else has noticed
it!

Who cares Guys, if newsreaders can't pronounce words properly, it's not the
easiest thing to do specially national. I can think of plenty of TV
newsreaders that have the same problem, but again if you know what there
trying to say, who cares, it's probally nerves anyway, just like the poor
Rachel Friend on the Today Show this morning, but she tried hard and she is
a cute one as well, an asset to Ch9 specially as a journalist on ACA and
Today and after a couple weeks when Tracey is doing ACA, she will great as
well, I remember getting nervous just to do a speech at school in front of
about 25 people.

No hard feelings, but if there's nothing else to talk about on this
newsgroup we have a problem.......... more important issuses like Zoe
Sheridan having a baby, all well there's plenty more fish in the sea
hehehehehhehehehehehehe, remember her day's at B105 doing her Top 30 with
Stuey, who was smart and know changed networks from Austereo to RG Capital
with Sea FM in the Goldcoast. Remember one day when they were doing a OB
from Movie World, when it opened on the Gold Coast, "GREAT RADIO" well I was
there...........

Stuey, how about moving to Rockhampton and working for 4RO (RG Capital),
Ross Turner (Ex Sea FM Goldcoast know at Sea Gosford) did it for 2 years
after a brilliant nightshift doing the top 30 at the Gold Coast, don't know
how he lasted that long, must of been a contract, They have a spare
afternoon shift after Jason Corsen left.

A big Hi to Ross Turner in Gosford, 4RO is going a bit downhill after you
left the station, I hope your family is well, Hi Deb.........:)

Heh heh . . . don't even get me started on Adriana Xenides
(correctly pronounced "Zeneedees", yet she insists on "Exennidees").

Unfortunately there is a big bandwagon in the media and kids seem to fall
for it. "OSStrallEEYUH" for "Australia" is one such example. It amused me no
end to see the pronunciation "me, too" bandwagon lose a wheel not that long
back over the bike rider Creville. His name was being pronounced by so many
idiots in the media as sounding like "CREV-EE-AY" and it was fairly obvious
it was Creville. It took the guy on Liebmann's morning show (forget his
name - Ian Maurice?) known as "Bear" to actually ASK the guy how his surname
should be pronounced and be told "Cruh-VILL" as spelled.

So much of English pronunciation seems to be beign changed by the idiot
"should of" (when meaning "should HAVE") sector in the media, these days.
Sigh....

Really? I wasnt sure. When my brother got married, he married a Greek girl
and from her I learned only that whatever it looks like, if it comes from
Greece, it isnt necessarily that way. I thought her name LOOKED Greek so I
decided not to try and pronounce it! ;-}

However, I remember Xerxes and dont remember anyone ever pronouncing it
EX-ZERK-ZEES, come to think of it. ;-}

I thought the JJJ news is inserted live on a state based feed each hour.
Maybe it is just inserted each hour (because of the delaying of program)
but still generic.

I can find out if you want...

JJJ insert the same bulletin into all feeds each hour. Makes reporting
sports scores sound more sensible, and late breaking news won't be so
late in delayed feeds (especially WA).

It really annoys me too - it is so obvious that J news is ex-Sydney. I've
now switch to metro radio just to avoid it.

It's a pity triplej doesn't have a great news service - there's a lot of
potential there. NewsRadio (Syd/Bris), Classic FM (Adel?) and RA (Melb?)
don't have any problems "nationalising" content.

I have to applaud the SKY Radio Network on the great news service they run,
not at all sydney-centered, not that i hear it anymore, but they were always
really good.

Hey some good feedback for a change (ignore my last message). But I guess
all feedback is good feedback, because at least you know what your
clients think.
