"Good morning Sydney. You're with Angela Catterns on Veva 953."
Those are the words Sydneysiders are likely to hear when the city's new
radio station, aimed at an over-40s demographic, launches on the 95.3
FM band next month.
DMG Australia, which owns the top-rating Nova network, will officially
unveil the name of its latest venture tomorrow.
But speculation is rife it will be branded Veva 953 after it was
discovered the domain name http://www.veva953.com.au had been
registered by DMG legal director, Peter Ickeringill.
The Veva 953 website is yet to go live but a message on it says,
"Please check back soon."
DMG publicist Gail D'Arcy told smh.com.au the station's name was a
secret and not even she knew what it was.
Angela Catterns has already been announced as its breakfast presenter
and Tony Squires and Rebecca Wilson are expected to host the afternoon
drive timeslot.
But not everyone is content with the station's new name.

AdvertisementChris Taylor, who co-hosts Today Today on the Triple J,
suggested a number of alternative monikers for the station, including:
- Nova Grey
- Coma
- ABC Afterlife
- X-ABC - the Sound of Sell-outs
"I'm also looking forward to some of the key features of the station,
aimed at winning the older demographic - like, I imagine, they'll have
people driving around in Beige Thunders, handing out free cans of icy
cold tea," he said.
"And instead of Nova's Wheelie Bin of Fortune, they'll probably have a
Wheelchair of Fortune. And the Secret Sound will always be someone
banging on about the war."

Seems its a VEVA !!!
On air it will sound like "Viva" which raises obvious issues about
brand name recognition - right down to the website address.
Also, Viva is a form of paper towel.
I'm sure they'd go to so much trouble to keep it secret - only to be found
out by some computer nerd who checks domain registrations and trademarks?
I'll wait for the official word tomorrow!
co-incidence? or is it a decoy?
