MyMP 3MP is back and it's good 1377 kHz 217 metres MW AM and DAB+

The last time when MyMP was on Mediumwave AM was when a clandestine
transmitting station was relaying it on 1485 kHz 202 metres late last
year. Now MyMP is back and this time it's on the "official" frequency
on 1377 kHz and it's dynamite. Our work radio has shifted from Magic
1278 to MyMP 1377 and it's so much better - a mix of gold hits and
some easy listening. Good for background music while you work. Plus
for the time being there's no ads other than for DAB radio and ads for

I've been listening on and off over the past few days, now that I can hear
the station in it's analogue form, and haven't heard any announcers. Are
they still on the job, or has the station dispensed with them and just
become an Easy Listening jukebox?

I'm disappointed that talk on 1377 Khz has so far failed, and the big
ones to blame are John Singleton from MacQuarie's 2GB, and Steve Price

My MP on digital is sounding better than ever. I guess it would sound
good as background music on an analog AM radio. They're already doing
an hourly news update (not sure if SEN has the same thing), plus the
weather, and very few ads. Harvey Norman has signed on. Let's hope
National Tiles doesn't bother!
I'm sure the current offering will rate more than 1.4% on 1377 Khz.
Hopefully the AM station will progress to local talk (with nothing
coming from Sydney). But until then let's enjoy My MP on analog
radio. If it disappears from the AM band it's new listeners will be
well rewarded by buying a digital radio where it sounds so much
better!

It's ironic that Fairfax Radio's 3AW is off the hook, but Fairfax
Radio's Magic has opposition again.
It may sharpen up Magic to try and play a bit more variety again.
They were sounding just a little too safe.

I would like to see at least one of the easy listening stations go
to the FM band (although the need for this has probably been bipassed
by the introduction of the digital radio spectrum). Still it would be good to have an easy listening station on the FM band like they do in the United States and Canada. The problem with Australian radio on the FM band is that it is littered with way too many community and public radio stations, leaving no more room for a decent choice of
commercial radio stations on the FM band. Perhaps they could get rid of a few of the public, community or ethnic stations such as PBS,MBS,RRR,SYN and ZZZ to allow for new commercial FM stations. The same should apply to all the other capital cities as well.....

I'm going to say this AGAIN for maybe the last time ...
When commercial FM radio stations were launched in 1980 - 32 years
ago!!!! - the pigtails running them decided that easy listening wasn't
hip, so they'd have to go all out to try and be modern but safe.
Nothing has changed in 32 years.
Wouldn't it really be wonderful if Vega had actually tried to do what
it promised (are you there Julia?). They said they'd have a station
with adult oriented easy music (maybe like what 3MP used to play) with
comtemporary talkback like 774 The Sound Of Melbourne 3LO did. When
they got to air they simply mimicked the other commercial FM stations.
Nobody still knows it that format would succeed, but it's still worth
a try!

You may have answerered your own problem. The FM band is totally
unfair. Buy one or more DAB+ radios and lap up the variety and
quality sound. 51 stations - but in Melbourne only two 24/7 talk
stations - 774 3LO, and Melbourne's Own 3AW.

There's also talk content on other stations but not necessarily all talk.
Also we have SEN Sports talk and 927 (3UZ) Racing talk.
So really there's a fair amount of chat going on already on the Melbourne airwaves.
