According to my calculations there' only three numbers left, but only the
radio they said 2. Which is not in 0,1,8 then?

Slight correction regarding Crack The Code, technically it's not 2DAY's
promo. It's an AUSTEREO promo, run through all their "Today" network
stations, ie, 2DAY, FOX, SAFM, B105, etc.

National promos / comps are fine, however I believe they should clearly
declare to listeners that it is a national competition. Seems only fair to
me, really. Earns respect and increases credibility, both of which Austereo
desparately need.

especially when FOX accidentally let slip a promo for Crack The Code which
had announcer Jamie Angel announce "Crack The Code, coming up in minutes..
2DAY FM..."!! And whenever they would run the competition there would
conveniently never be any mention of suburb or company names or even the
weather. I'd love to get through to one of Austereo's competitions and
gladly tell them what the weather is like in Melbourne, or "thanks FOX" for
my lovely prize... I can only assume the callers are prompted before going
to air not to give any site specific information because it seems very
convenient that none of them ever let such comments slip through.

But why is it that radio stations like FOX like people to listen longer, yet
talk to the audience as if they only have a memory span of about 5 minutes.
How many times I heard the "secret" to 'cracking the code' told to the
audience as if they might have missed it the last 1000 times or, heaven
forbid, actually figured it out for themselves!

Aah, Andy, my friend, you have done well to figure out the 'almighty' FOX!
Mind you, it's not restricted to FOX, this practice of ramming promos down
listeners' throats, it seems to be a network thing. Must love the sound of
their own production work! Unfortunately, your attempt to mention
state-specific content would be edited out before broadcast. These calls
are never broadcast live, so you'd have no hope of it getting to air.

As I said earlier, I don't have a problem with national comps / promo's, but
feel it's only fair that participants are told on air that it is a national
event, not just splurt out the usual, pissweak cop-out of 'they can always
check the terms and conditions on our website'! Such a pathetic, lame
excuse, that!

Your Kidding me really!!! I'm not sure whether you realise it or not
but commercial radio is about entertaining the listener and trying to
keep them listening longer in order to convert that increased
listening to larger ratings figures.

Who gives a rats whether the promo is run nationally or is plugged
every five minutes. I don't think the punter really cares whats going
on, as long as they are entertained and they get the chance to win
some cash.

Your views are tired and boring and you have no understanding of
commercial radio and how it works.

My point was that most listeners don't know they're competing against
listeners from other stations around the country. The same argument was
given by listeners with 'secret sound' some time ago. They didn't realise
they were competing against listeners in other cap cities and were quite
shocked when they found out the facts. All I'm saying is there should be a
higher level of disclosure.

So my views are NOT that tired and boring, and yes, I DO have an
understanding of commercial radio and how it works. All I'm saying is,
maybe we can make it BETTER.

I was aware that some shows are national, but I though Crack the code would
be city based even if it was running on diffrernt Austereo stations. Well I
guess that explains why it's so difficult to ever get through.

Just as a note of interest, a FOX FM promo slipped through NX FM one
arvo too.

Most people are aware ( i reckon so anyhow ) that it's not really that
local because Kaz will be doing the 90s at 9 and then all of a sudden
they hear Jamie Angel sprouting about crack the code. When Kaz 'has a
talk with the last winner' she follows her script well. If the winner
was really from NX's listener base we'd have a very chummy talk about
where they were from be it 'Tronno, Stocko, Ruddeford or where ever'...
or do most people miss that????

A quick drive down the freeway after midday would make it obvious too if
you listened to 2Day .. ... geez ... they've guessed the same numbers
down here as they have up there ... eh??

Austereo doing a good job at commercial radio is essentially about ...
keep them listening ...

and for the record, systems are available to allow different areas
callers through at different times too since they now have their
national 131060 number.

I'd certainly care if they plugged it every five minutes. I'd switch off
straight away.

Promos are possibly the most annoying thing about commercial radio, except
perhaps, for the crap music.
