Has anyone on the NSW Central coast had any success at picking up
digital radio broadcasts from Sydney stations 2GB and 2UE in beach
side suburbs of the NSW Central Coast?

Earlier this month, I picked up Sydney's digital radio stations
through my DAB+ portable up at Swansea. Whilst it was 'touch & go', it
was quite stable when I received audio.
So chances are that you would be able to pick up Sydney's digital
radio stations on the beachside suburbs of the Central Coast,
especially if you have a fairly good line-of-sight towards Sydney and/
or have a VHF High-Gain Antenna that can be adjustable to a vertical
polarisation.

2GB, 2UE & 2CH are quite popular on among Central Coast's baby boomers
& retirees population, especially given that 2GO, who once targeted
those types of audiences many years ago, are now too busy competing
with rock station Star 104.5 to think about targeting the older
audience. As a result, 2GO is now sounding VERY similar to Star 104.5
& vice-versa.
It's a similar story down in Wollongong, where Wave FM, who also once
targeted an older audience, are now aiming younger to compete more
heavily with i98. This resulted in many of its once-targeted older
listeners to desert Wave FM in favour of ABC Illawarra, 2GB, 2UE &
2CH.

In some ways, the Central Coast & Wollongong are now just extensions
of the Sydney radio market, especially by the commercial AM stations.

Thanks for the feed back - looks like it might be worth trying then.

We get a strong AM signal but a lot of interference at time.

If you get reasonable analogue TV reception on CH7 and CH10 you should
be OK

Thanks for response but our Sydney TV is relayed through a local
transmitter and the aerial is pointed north to it so no idea if we can
get the signal direct from sydney :-(

Try rotating your TV antenna so that it's pointing towards Sydney, and
see if you can pick up Sydney's Channels 7 and 10 - you're going to need
to have an antenna up to receive the digital radio signal anyway, so why
not try this as a first step?

That's highly unlikely to achieve anything, given his local translator
is UHF, thus meaning he will have a UHF antenna. Channels 7,8,9,9a(DAB+
digital radio),10,11,& 12 are all VHF & a UHF antenna won't pick them up.

Okay. The aim of the exercise here is to see IF anything can be received
from the Sydney transmitters. With your UHF antenna, see if you can pick
up one of the Sydney UHF transmitters (SBS on 28 comes to mind). Give
that a go as a first step.
