From memory, the jingle shrine had the actual changeover audio.

Jingle Shrine still exists.. sort of. It was archived on the National
Library's pandora system.. try this link:

http://pandora.nla.gov.au/nph-arch/1999/Z1999-May-3/http://www.radioatwork.com.au/stations/3ak.htm

When I tried it a few months ago, the audio still worked. Might not
work any more, but the NLA might still have it somewhere.

I haven't found it, but I've been in touch with Andrew Baudinette who ran
the Jingle shrine. He thinks he has a real plauer version on a CD. I'll keep
you posted.

Hi folks,

The changeover from 3KZ to KZFM was great to listen to - it was NEW
YEARS EVE with PETE MEEHAM and LIZ SULLIVAN as 3KZ until Midnight, as
104.3 ran a tone...

The tone faded out at 30 seconds to midnight, and the first thing the
station played was time pips and the LETS SWITCH TO KZ FM jingle - the
best adaption of a sone I have heard, and it sounded brilliant on the
new KZ FM.

The strange thing is to just compare the treatment 3TT and 3KZ received
versus that of EON/MMM. 3KZ and 3TT had only a 30 day simmulcast
period, vs EON/MMM with a 3 month period. I think this was the factor
that broke KZ, not giving its existing audience enough time to cross
over to the FM frequency.

It was a pity also that the station decided to change their on air
style to "FM" rather than what their existing audience knew and loved.
Both KZ and TT when on the FM band "close miked" their announcers and
talked softer, the news no longer ran on time, and the whole sound went
off kilter. The AM stations really would have done better with a 12
month simmulcast period, however that was not the case.

oh well,

Lets Switch to KZ FM - perhaps GOLD 104 will do ?

If I remember correctly they had a special on Channel 7 at 11pm New Years
Eve in the hour either side of midnight leading up to the conversion with a
whole heap of KZ fm type song clips introduced by the likes of Shaun
Cosgrove,Pete and Liz,Peter Byrne and Craig Huggins (I think?).
Wasnt anything new but was a great secondary source of cross promotion and I
used to love putting faces to voices ........
Must admit though the commercials for the "Lets switch to KZ FM got tiresome
they seemed to be on every break when I switched the tv on.......
On great KZ moments anyone remember the simulcast they did in conjunction
with the Melbourne City Square memorial the week John Lennon died?I remember
listening to the radio and seeing footage on the now defunct City Square
Screens.......

The hour special was actually a couple of weeks into the new year - in fact
I've got it on video tape in a box somewhere. .

When KZ made the switch they were exactly the same... in fact within a few
months the station went to number 1. it was months and months after that
they decided to F#$K with it and made the change from "hits and memories" to
Today's Mix - Gavin Wood ended up on Breakfast - The 2 Marks or the Top
Marks were poached form K-Rock to do nights... it didn't work and a few
months after that KZ became GOLD.

I remember the change to GOLD. At the time I was working in a car park down
the road from (then) TTFM in Queensbridge Street, Sth Melb. As this was
pre-TT/KZ duopoly, Mardi Heagney (now Cole) mentioned at the time that she
doubted it would work. Guess that's now fairly subjective as to whether it
has or not!

Well if it had stayed in it's original form she would've been right... when
GOLD first launched it was full on 50's & 60's and some 70's rock n roll - a
real oldies station - then of course over the years they moved away from the
Be Bop A Lu La's to more of the Hotel California's

I have the actual audio from the switch over at midnight, which also
included Pete and Liz rabbiting on.

Can you take attachments in your gmail account?

It all sounded like we had a massive party to welcome in the switch, but in
fact it was pre-recorded. It ran from Midnight till 1 and then I was in the
chair till 6.

Craig Huggins wasn't with us at that time.

He came along when they decided to forget their traditional 10 share and
focus on the 18-25's, a bad mistake which we never recovered from.

Gold 104 was an attempt to rectify that in 1992 and it worked.

Don't talk to me about the Top Marks!

Mark Kennedy and Mark Stauffer.

It was the time of the first Gulf War and I was seconded into the newsroom
for some evenings. I wasn't able to use Newsstar at that time so printed my
bulletins. The lights in the news booth were switched off so many times....

At the time, I hated them. I'm not sure I've gotten over it yet.

And now they play the "Tubthumping" kinda songs and others I'd expect on Mix
101.1, I think it's the "10 years old rule"

When KZFM became Gold 104 with the "Good Time Oldies" format it was quite
different to any of the other "Classic Hits" format and a long way from the
"Sound Survey" days of the 1960s and early 1970s. We've probably come too
far in 2005 for an old and new format like the Sound Survey although some
people might see Vega as trying to do that today.

Blue Fig - i loved the Timewarp jingles - did they win an award?

It's a shame KZ (and TT) junked their calls - all that history and
heritage down the proverbial sinkhole - i agree bringing back the KZ
and (TT) calls might be nice - and good for jingles :)

G'day Artie,

The things one finds when one googles oneself. LOL!

As you and I have been getting on famously for some years now I can only assume time is a great healer.

I found this ancient post of yours tonight while I was checking to see which media outlets ran the Top Marks story today:

https://nz.news.yahoo.com/election/a/-/24243351/the-top-marks-sign-with-the-sound/

Who would have thunk it?

Cheers,

Mark
