My fondest memories of the great man were his regular chats about
beavers. And he cracked me up when after his mother Ena Harwood died
he continued to collect her pension for about 10 years.
and will sadly be also remembered as the guy who kept fraudulently
claiming his mother's taxpayer paid Federal Government benefits until
well after she died when he was finally discovered and charged .....
I also recall that he once collapsed whilst on-air at 2UE. Must have
be ill for many years.
That said - he was a good broadcaster as well ... RIP
He was a 'fast talker' but he did produce many funny moments on air.

I may be wrong. I cannot find anywhere else but here about the death of
Andrew Harwood.

You would have thought that some sort of tribute would been aired. His 'best
mat' John Kerr only found out last night by a listener telling him.
He was a bit overpowering but much better than some of the crap we get on
air now.
Luke.
Yeah you would think that Luke. I am TG and produced with Andrew for
many years, he wasn't just my boss, he was a mate and loyal - we were
a team. Never will I work with such a brilliant man again. I am
hurting like I lost a best friend - and I have. But I have memories
that will last forever - his love of music and reading and everything
weird and funny in the world. He had me chase a streaking man down the
pacific highway with a microphone (we got in trouble for that). He
told me midway through one show to go and get 4 US sailors when a ship
was in town - I did - poor buggars didn't know what hit them.
We gave prizes like a batch of 2UE pens that didn't work, Andrews
balls were always a popular prize.
When he played a favourite song he would come out of the studio
singing and dancing - and we all had to join in.
I have been living in Texas, USA, for 5 years and we still kept in
contact. I spoke to him about a week before he passed away - he was so
happy! He had just returned from America having spent Christmas with
his daughter.
Rest in Peace dear friend, you know how much I loved you and loved
working with you - even if you did drive me nuts at times. You were
demanding at showtime, you were habitual to the point of insanity and
I loved and miss every bit of it.
Im 35 now and remember as a kid watching "Its Academic" or something similar
where high school kids took each other on at a quiz.......Think it was on
Channel 7 Saturday afternoons from memory just before Sevens Big League
Sympathies with those that knew him and worked with him.....

a nice euology
Very sad news. I worked with Andrew at 4WK circa 1969. A gentleman,
professional, and good friend.
