can i beg borrow or steal a copy of the tuning instructions please to my
email rred...@optusnet.com.au.....
ive emailled terlin a few times with no reply. ive googled for instructions
with only user reports [not tuning] found..
Cheers and TIA....
funnily enough it gives a flat swr over 6 meters and the highest tap is 10M
. im talking 100K bandwidth...Cheers.. Rod
Make sure the wonder lead is evenly wound around the antenna then just
slide the metal tip up and down to adjust the VSWR.
Earth your transmitter straight to the chassis and check the Terlin
mount has a good earth.
Ty Roj for your help, before i bought it i ran a multimeter over it.
Everything is continuous from the pl259 input socket ,through all the taps
to the tuning tip. i noticed the tuning tip has a small groove [you need to
feel it rather than see it] in it so i assume thats where all the tappings
are resonate. the base is fine with no shorts to gnd and the entire antenna
is like new with no rust/corrosion/damage anywhere.
i was handed the tapping wire [also continuous] and im wonderring if im
plugging it in to the wrong bottom tapping point... theres a tapping marked
"WL-90",is this where the bottom tap goes ??? What does wl-90 mean please ?
or does the bottom tapping point go on 80m tap ?? now, having asked these
questions ive obviously tried everything ive asked here still with no joy
on the 80/40/20 bands...
Ive tried close wound tapping wire, loose wound, hanging straight down .
i dont have anything to measure resonance through a inductive loop at the
SO259 and ive tried different parts of the problem bands checking swr every
50 KHz etc and i get full high swr right across the three bands...
through a tuner everything is sweet as expected so 'emergencies' are
caterred for, but, as a hobbyist it would be sweet to see it working as its
designed...
subject 2......
with the above antenna,i thought of adding tapping plugs to ALL the taps and
the band in use should present a workable swr and accept 90% of the output
power like they do with dipoles using one coax... theres NO difference
between dipoles and the vertical as i see it,its only wire on a stick...
id like opinions please...no, ive not got that far as to try it yet...
cheers.. Rod

The bottom end of the "wander" lead plugs into the lowest hole. Its role is to
short out the lower section of the helical.

UIAVMM it means the lead lemgth is 90cms. It is indicated so you can replace a
lost or broken lead.

It should be evenly wound around the whip so there is minimal sag or "spare"
length.

Not sure what your description means here, but remember that any "active"
section of whip is going to be affected by any wire hanging nearby. The section
above the active (selected) tap point should be clear of all metallic/conducting
material.
I realise that you are on the move, but try ringing Terry at Terlin (aka
Outbacker) for any clarification - (08) 9455 4288 or 0414 532 070

For 80 Mtrs, NO WANDER LEAD , it use's the whole length of the antenna. use
the wander lead to tap off the appropiate bands
Hello All,
Try this website http://www.qsl.net/vk3frc
This is where you can get the famous FAMPARC mobile whip antenna
our bullbar is new and the paint was hinderring the grounding. cheers..

He could communicate without any difficulty over the same terrain, same
distance, same frequency and same power, same transmitter, whereas my sigs
were not copyable at the comms headquarters.
I used an MFJ-269 to tune the antenna, very, very frustrating as it was the
first time I had used the Outbacker.

Hello Harry,
These antennas made by FAMPARC are the best in the Australian market
that one can obtain TODAY.
These work fantastic and whats more they are Australian made by
Australian hams FOR Australian hams.
Hope you got one for yourself - tell your friends.
regards

I grant you they are a better option then the Terlin, (famparc) but like
everything else there is always something slightly more effecient when it
comes to mobile HF antennas,
the wander lead type multi band antennas fill a gap, and suit some fellows,
if you wanted the optimum MONO band HF mobile you would go for a Bug Catcher
style, for multi band switching on the move, a Motorised Antenna is the go,
even in the motorised mobile hf antenna there is good and better, Charlie
Geynes HI-Q is the King,
I personally have been using Jim Heaths HI Sierra style motorised HF antenna
since '95, and just recently ( 3 years) switched to a Tarheel . end fed 1/4
wave with a 2" coil, and resonant , sure does help , I also have been privy
to a Terlin V HI Sierra HS-1000 side by side test, no callsigns , no pack
drill,
but the guy with a IC-706 (first model) and a custom TERLIN (850.00) 160M
thru 2M, ( huge, abt 10ft tall) on a back of a Ford, with the 706 , called
into the travellers net (vk3 op) and was S9 solid,
he switched off his 706, and hopped into my car parked beside his, and made
same call on a YAESU FT-747GX and a Hi Sierra HS-1000, 3ft x 2" mast, 72"
s/steel stinger and was a documented 15Db better on TX and on the Receiver,
he WASN'T convinced, so we ran a 3mtr piece of Belden 9913 from his 706 in
his car to MY ANTENNA on my car, and receIved the exact same signal 15db
better on TX to the VK3 station, and 15Db on his receiver better then his
Terlin.
to this day that fellow is a good friend and still tells the story,
he rang Ray VK3ATN using my phone, to order a Hi Sierra as Ray was the
Aussie agent at the time,
anyhow a bit or trivia fellas, AND ALL IN GOOD FUN, and no flaming , just
past observations,
Rgds
Ps
I also used a Texas Bug catcher with the wander clip lead for band changing,
but in QLD, in Summer they sure lived up to their name BUG CATCHER what a
bas**&*t to keep clean if you were doing some miles.
cheers
