She should put a bag over her head for wanting them banned. What is needed
is an alternative - not bans, not levies, not bullshit - an alternative.
Nettle gets the arse in July and must want to wave her arms about until
then. Bit like Senator Allison from the Democrats.

Plastic or paper?

She's an idiot. No doubt about it.
Definately plastic.
The alternative would be paper bags, but then we'd get the Greens on
the march.
What about organising a small discount on the shopping (out of Labor's
pocket) for those who provide their own?
I always come prepared but unless I'm quick to announce the fact, the
checkout person starts filling in their ready-and-waiting.
THEY NEVER ASK!

Maybe we could melt down some of those 100 000 plastic Workchoices folders
that the Howard Government pissed away our tax dollars on and turn those
into shopping bags
Paper bags don't have enough strength, even though that's all there was
years ago. A viable alternative doesn't exist yet, and that's the real
problem here.
I wonder if condom head garret has heard about bio-degradable plastic bags
?
Of course.
And with 100 000 taxpayer funded plastic Workchoices Brochures needing
disposal, I think we could probably make a few thousand Shopping bags out
of them.

Depends what used for.

Scam - take many years to degrade.

We should put one over Sergay's and FlangesBum's heads as well.

Paper bags aren't as strong. Its also easier to make handles with the
plastic bag ones. With paper, you'd have to carry them from the bottom
like you see on American TV shows. That sort of limits what you can
carry.

Or charge 1 cent per plastic bag. 10 cents is a ripoff considering
what they cost. With a claimed 4 billion plastic bags used last year,
that amounts to $40 million for 1c or $400M for 10c.

As an experiment, I took a "green" bag I got free from Baker's Delight
some time ago. It wasn't very good. I asked the girl to pack
everything into it. While it all went it, it was a tad heavy for just
one hand. 2 bags would have been better. So the big problem will be
estimating how many bags you need to take with you.
> THEY NEVER ASK!
The bitches at Franklins won't even pack them for you! At least at
Woolies they do but they prefer their own green bags (I think they
were designed to sit in the rack properly).
I can see us all ending up pushing those funny little shopping
trolleys that old ladies always seem to have.

So, as a matter of interest, what do you think they cost?
To produce or how much they're sold for to supermarkets etc? The
markup would be 50%, at least, if not 100%.

I mean, how much does a retailer pay for a plastic bag?
Bit like a piece of string etc. question I suppose, but i actually know
what they cost; just interested in perceptions.
