Many of them are in silos.
And the command and control systems were also often underground,
notably Cheyanne Mountain, until recently.

the one which gets little attention was Dis-Armament

range of tactical nukes.. INCREASING the likelihood they would
be used in more 'limited' theatres.. and now that Russia is
re-emerging with Massive Oil Wealth and China with immense
economic clout... the old Cold War scenarios are back..
With Oil and Water to be fought over in a thirsty world with
an almost empty gas tank...
