At the Live Earth concert at Wembley [in July], the
full-stopped crooner vowed to blow up his Hummer ... for the good
of the environment.
Anyone spot the flaw in that one? Reduce the harmful
combustion-based emissions of your bling-wagon by setting it on
fire? Hmm. Why not just set light to all those nasty oil wells to
stop people putting the stuff in their cars, too?
But Will (as he's known to his mates) has seen the error of his
ways. With the benefit of hindsight and a nice calming cup of
tea, he's agreed instead to dispose of his Hummer by other means.
"He's going to crush it up and recycle it," said a Black Eyed
Peas spokesman.
His bandmate Fergie has another approach. She'll give a Hummer to
the highest bidder on eBay:
"After performing at Live Earth and realising everyone has a
role to play in protecting the environment, Fergie decided to
sell her Hummer and donate all the proceeds to Global Green
USA.," the eBay advert reads. "Auction Cause is also donating
carbon emission credits for 10 years to help offset the impact."
"This is Fergie's actual vehicle, and will come with a letter
of authenticity from Auction Cause, the premier auction
management agency. The Hummer was completely 'pimped out' by the
guys at DUB too."
Beats me how it's better for the environment that someone else
drives that Humvee rather than Fergie, but it would be wrong of
us to question the wisdom of singers.
