I hope you enjoyed your visit to Australia. It was amusing to hear you use
that great Aussie term "fair dinkum", a term that has fallen out of common
use lately, for reasons that I am sure you will understand. I fear you may
have been somewhat misled as to its meaning, because you equated it with the
Texan term, "man of steel".
This is a description that we in Australia understand very well, and it does
suit Mr. Howard. He is rigid and uncompromising, cold and hard, highly
polished but still dull somehow.
"Fair dinkum" means something very different. It means true and honest,
trustworthy and sincere.
I hope you can see your mistake.

I don't know whether anyone else has mentioned the possibility, but our
president's bestowal of that sobriquet on our prime minister may have been
inspired by the Russian meaning of the name that was adopted by the man who
was born Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili.

Yeah, thought about it, but rejected the comparision.
Stalin murdered his opponents, Howard is more like Superman.
He's faster than a speeding bullet. He's more powerful than a locomotive.
He's able to leap tall buildings at a single bound.
I mean, two of the most powerful leader come visiting, on two consequtive
days.
Not even Superman could pull that off.

In the dim mists of Australia's working-class past -- long since forgotten
as the hurley-burley of running from the coffee shop to the gym and
back again to pick up the 1.3 kids -- it meant
"a fair day's pay for (a day's) work".
"Dinkum" was at some point POME slang for "work".

You call that criticism?
BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAhahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS is criticism . . .
Yes I know Howard's been the most divisive Prime Minister in
Australian history. Yes it is true that he drove the Aussie dollar
down to below US50c which allowed overseas interests to buy
up most of this country. Yes he has privatised every government
utility that wasn't nailed down in order to "showcase" a budget
surplus, even though our asset cupboard is now bare. Yes I'm
aware that he plays the race card whenever he's up for
re-election. True, he is a poor judge of character, vis-a-vis Peter
Hollingworth. Yes, I agree that he's all but destroyed Higher
Education, which will make us the white trash of Asia in years
to come. Yes, Howard is a consummate liar and has no equal in
that regard in Australian political history, re. core and non-core
promises, Manildra, WMD, children overboard and children
having their lips sewn together by subhuman wop parents etc.
Yes, he did join the US in an illegal war on Iraq for short term
political gain thereby making us a target for terrorist attack, not
to mention the growing enmity from our near neighbors. Yes, his
government is the highest taxing in our history, with increased
federal taxes up by a whopping 25% in real terms. True, during
his term in office he's attacked the Governor-general Sir
William Deane, High Court Judges, the United Nations,
Amnesty International, our indigenous leaders, our religious
leaders, historians, academics et al, ad nauseam, in fact anybody
and everybody who disagrees with his distorted view of the world.
True, there's no argument that he's an unattractive, myopic, balding
dwarf with an effeminate high falsetto who's an embarrassment to this
country whenever he represents us overseas

Then you should have stated that UP FRONT YOU FUCKING DORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The way YOU posted it, it is adressed from YOU to Mr Bush!
Didn't you go to school at all? Ever?
Talk about thick as two bricks............
"revisionism"? that's rather a big word for a little bloke like you Tommy.
But you appear to be a little confused. "Revisionism" is a word that's
currently linked to Howard's dictatorial decree that the Australian National
Museum change its exhibits to show the genocidal white invaders as
'benefactors' of the aboriginals.
The word you are looking for to describe my comment, is "accurate".
Point 1 - It's well documented that the Soviets were responsible for ridding
the world of Hitler by forcing his suicide during the Battle for Berlin.
You really ought to open the odd book before disputing claims that show you
up for being the uninformed, ridiculous fool that you undoubtedly are.
Point 2 - The Soviet Union did indeed destroy the Nazis The war was
essentially fought and won on the Eastern Front. A Front that saw the
routing of the German, Romanian and Hungarian armies, culminating in the
Battle for Berlin and the subsequent surrender of the surviving German
forces.
One only need examine the casualty figures to see where the bulk of the
fighting took place, the Soviet Union lost a staggering twenty million dead.
The overwhelming bulk of the 5 million German dead were also lost on the
Eastern Front, losses sustained in the largest and bloodiest land battles in
history.
British dead, including civilians and Commonwealth troops, numbered a paltry
500,000. Whilst American losses were a laughable 350,000. They might as well
have stayed at home for all the good that they did.
The British had their arses kicked all the way from Dunkirk to Singapore,
getting a sound thrashing at Crete, Dieppe and Arnhem, along the way. I
vividly remember seeing footage of a sniggering wehrmacht picking up
thousands of pairs of British army boots from the beaches of Dunkirk after
the BEF stabbed the French in the back and did a runner. The only
'contribution' they made to the war effort, was to the Nazis, by leaving
enough equipment on the beaches in their mad panic to flee to arm a dozen
German divisions.
Come to think of it, the only 'battle' involving the Pommes which I can
recall, was the 'Battle' of Britain, in which 397 pilots were killed. In a
conflagration that saw the deaths of an estimated 50,000,000 people, it
wasn't really a battle, in fact it doesn't even qualify as a disagreement.
The incompetent British lost 832 fighters, the Germans lost only 668
fighters (the Germans fighter pilots were obviously a class above their
opposition), together with 600 slow, lumbering, sitting duck bombers. Jesus,
even though the pommes had early-warning radar and lay in wait for the
lumbering bombers like a pack of jackals, they still managed to lose more
fighters than the Germans lost bombers. A pathetic outcome by any objective
analysis and a further indictment of the incompetence of the British
military.
Yes, I'm afraid it was all left up to the Soviet Union.
For example, in 1943 at Kursk, the largest clash of armour ever, 196 of the
best German divisions (two-thirds of the German army) were defeated,
together with 32 divisions and 8 brigades from Germany's allies. A total of
228 divisions and 8 brigades cut to pieces.
The Soviet-German front at that time remained as it had been, the chief and
decisive front of the war, as only 7 divisions and 2 brigades - 2.7% of the
German army were in action against Anglo-American forces.
Although it was fashionable during the Cold War to suggest that the Russian
winter was responsible for the German defeat (no pun intended) it should be
remembered that German forces spent four long years in the Soviet Union.
We should pay homage to the Russian generals, Zhukov in particular. A man
considered by analysts to have been the most brilliant commander in military
history.
Stalin as commander in chief should be given due credit for overseeing that
victory and delivering us from the heel of the Nazi insanity.
The fact is, the D-day invasion of Europe and the subsequent light
resistance that was encountered would have been impossible if Hitler had not
attacked the Soviet Union.
So, I say again, Stalin is undoubtedly sitting at the Right Hand of God for
saving his "chosen people" from complete extermination.
Serge.

Have you worked out what it means yet? What does it say in your

Seems like everything leads back to Howard for you. Quite an obsession
you have there.
BTW, if you think about it the aborigines never had it this good -
welfare on tap, running businesses, making huge profits off the
sympathy industry. I bet they kneel down and thank god every day for
white settlement.
}The word you are looking for to describe my comment, is "accurate".
}
Nothing that comes out of a socialist's mouth has anything to do with
accuracy.
}Point 1 - It's well documented that the Soviets were responsible for ridding
}the world of Hitler by forcing his suicide during the Battle for Berlin.
}
Bollocks. The US and Britain were moving on Berlin from one side while
the Russians converged from the East. The Soviets happened to reach
there first. To say they were solely responsible or somehow forced his
suicide (he chose to commit suicide rather than be captured - by
either side) is typical socialist bullshit.
}You really ought to open the odd book before disputing claims that show you
}up for being the uninformed, ridiculous fool that you undoubtedly are.
}
Reading a single book or Soviet textbooks hardly qualifies as being
informed, Serge, you socialist fuckwit.
}Point 2 - The Soviet Union did indeed destroy the Nazis The war was
}essentially fought and won on the Eastern Front. A Front that saw the

The Soviets played a significant role but if it wasn't for the allies
and their aid to the USSR their role would have been greatly
diminished. If Germany didn't have a war on two fronts (and Hitler is
largely to blame for this) a war with Russia alone would have seen the
USSR roundly defeated by the superior German forces.

Correct, however the reason for the high casualties on the Soviet side
were largely due to the poor quality of the troops and their command
structure (which had been decimated by Stalin).

The massively superior numbers of the Russians had nothing to do with
that of course. Due to the Western Front and blunders of Hitler they
were given a respite long enough to rally their forces and bring war
production online. They were hopelessly prepared for any type of war
at the time of Barbarossa.

Rubbish. It was Stalin's ineptitude that saw the USSR so underprepared
and its armed forces in such poor shape when Germany attacked. It was
Hitler's hubris and poor decisions rather than anything to do with
Stalin that saw German forces over stretched and defeated.

Ah, Serge, you've had too much Soviet brainwashing. You've lost the
ability to think for yourself.
(sigh!)
Nothing but cliché's from poor old Tommy.
Nothing substantive, nothing new, nothing intelligent, just
tired old cliché's.
How sad.
In other words I've shown your idiotic claims to be exactly that and
you don't have any comeback.
It is interesting to note that while you exalt Stalin as a hero for
ridding the world of Hitler he himself was responsible for murdering
far more people than Hitler ever did.
Of course to a leftie fuckwit that's of minor consequence (what's a
few million killed here or there i the name of the great cause) as
Stalin is still a great hero of socialism.
