I must be missing something. Every year we have people marching down the
main street of town in order to remember those who died in war. Very nice
and touchy-feely I'm sure.
But what I find really tacky is seeing kids marching or even younger adults
wearing grandpa's medals. What a crock of shit. What an insult.
I'd feel like a total imposter and tool if I did that. My dad fought, got a
medal and died. He can't march so I have no right to wear his medal and
march for him. I'll honour him privately.
Its bad enough that so many Aussies died fighting in bullshit wars abroad
that we had no reason to be involved in.
Fucking murderous politicians sending young men off to die for no reason.
They weren't even defending Australia most of them, particularly in WW1.

We should ALL march on Anzac day against arsehole politicians who start wars
and murder thousands for no good reason. (George Bush, HoWARd, and others
are you listening?)

"lest we forget" the weak pussies who did a few months in Vietnam and now
piss and moan about traumatic stress syndrome or other such nonsense. Why
sign up for the military if you are going to wimp out years later because
you saw a bit of death and destruction. (conscripted guys had no choice I
spose). Maybe they just couldnt handle all the free ganja that was on offer
over there and it fucked them up, dunno.

It's worse when the media craps on about 'our heroes' in Iraq. Sure, they
are making the average aussie safer by being involved in amerikkkas dirty
little oil war. Petrol is soooo much cheaper now as well.

War is bad.

My local RSL has been instrumental in the "Community Link" programme
to encourage young people to inquire into their parents/grandparents roles
in Australia's wars. They are also encouraged to march in place of their
incapable or deceased relatives. Its one way to keep he memories alive
and hopefully reflect on the individuals who took part in those wars - and
hopefully teach the coming generations that war is a crime.

Maybe Labour will promise to have Howard tried for war crimes, but I think
the US would invade us if that happened. It would nt do for the Bushinator's
mates to get shipped off to the Hague.

Most Vietnam oppressors know that they took part in an immoral and corrupt
war on people who were our allies against the Japanese 20 years earlier.
They know they did wrong and that they did nt have the guts to say NO
to conscription or to become an objector. They try to use the
Nurenberg Defence - I vas only following zee orders.

But dont forget that Howard's corrupt little cadre supplied $300m in
military
aid to Saddam so that he could put up a half decent fight - Oh what a lovely
war.

You are missing something, sanity. But then I and many others went overseas
on wars and operations so that you could have the right to freely express
your twisted, whining, ungrateful, thoughtless opinion. You should be
ashamed to call yourself Australian.

Poor misguided soul, what did you do (no doubt overseas in an irrelevant
war) to give me freedom of speech?
You obviously did a shit job whatever it was because there isnt free speech
in Australia anyway. PC capital of the world this.

You are a very strange person, you use free speech to whine about a
percieved lack of free speech. Anything else you say will no doubt be judged
by your credibility (currently zero)

You go on about your experiences and yet you are clearly too young to
remember when you were actually allowed to say publicly what you think.
Either that or you are in denial.
I guess I havent offended any 'minorities' in my postings so legally I can
still say what i like.

Wait a minute. You seem to be against Untermensch's right to free speech.

Our glorious dead spit on you.

I agree. I am quite sure that if it weren't for the pollies banging the
drum, Anzac Day would not have acquired the almost mythic status it hs over
the last thirty years. If you talked to any of the old diggers, they weren't
particulalrly proud of having gone to fight in a war. It was just a bit of a
lark for a lot of them, others went because their mates did, others did out
of a sense of "duty" to the empire. There was furious disagreement about the
cause at the time, muc more so than in the case of WWII when our legitiamte
security interests were threatened.

As for letting kids march, I think it is utterly disggraceful.

How about we see some of the victims of the napalm bombings marching, that
would be a far more appropraite antidote to the jingoistic bullshit we have
been served up over recent years. Instead of talking about the bravery of
our boys, let's have a look at some of the victims of Hiroshima - civillians
mainly - who had no quarrel with us. Japan was not a democracy- You can't
blame them for that was done in their name. You cannot say the same about
us.

You must be able to read stuff here I did not post (or even think). That
makes you something of a journalist (bull shit artist). I certainly am not
against his right of free speech, he can freely express his twisted,
whining, ungrateful, thoughtless opinion as much as he likes.

And in this free country I am able to freely disagree and express my opinion
of his stupidity.

Is that better?

No worries. lots of room for them in the prison system, where they'll
end up.
