I am also running winroute. Would that cause problems?
TIA
I would recommend you use Tiny Personal Firewall V2 from
www.tinysoftware.com as it is one of the few personal firewalls with MD5
capabilities, stateful inspection, and no known vulnerabilities.
> I am also running winroute. Would that cause problems?
I'm not sure if you realise this, but WinRoute is a Network Firewall - the
same firewall from which Tiny Personal Firewall is derived. If you are
using the WinRoute PC also as a client, it is recommended that you do *NOT*
use a Personal Firewall also (although it doesn't cause any MAJOR problems).
If you are wanting this new firewall to run on your client PC's - there will
be no problem.
A NETWORK firewall such as WinRoute controls IP traffic on specific ports,
types and source/destinations whereas a PERSONAL firewall such as TPF
controls how APPLICATIONS can use these ports, types, etc.

Yes I found that out the hard way. Its a pain though because winroute doesnt
tell me when programs are accessing the internet. The primiary reason I want to
install a firewall is to stop the unauthorised access to the web by spyware
programs. I remember using a firewal program quite some time ago, it was te one
symantec bought out, can't rember the name, and it would pop up a box asking me
if it should allow or deny the request by a program to access the net. Is
winroute able to defeat spyware
just in case your wondering, i use ad aware.
Your server already has a firewall - WinRoute.

WinRoute is made to share the connection, in the majority of cases on an
unused PC. This being the case, the firewall implementation is designed to
require nil user interaction and it runs solely on the rules specified.
Personally I'd forget about using a personal firewall and follow the
instructions on www.tinysoftware.com for setting up a solid WinRoute
firewall.
