I live in a new Residential area on a block of 4 Units. My street cannot get
ADSL yet my neighbour who lives one street down, has ADSL. Good help us.

Keep checking on their webpage they are enabling more exchanges every week.
Mine gets connected on the 21st of this month.

My suggestion to you is to contact Telstra directly (yes, I know
it's a pain, but so is waiting for the web page to update).

I kept ringing big pond until I actually found someone (gasp!)
who actually knew what he was talking about, as opposed to
someone who was simply trying to sell me an authorisation
to transfer my long distance calls. (What sort of commission
do Telstra staff get for this??)

I eventually found that my local exchange was due to be
upgraded last month. Do NOT expect to receive any email
from any applications of interest in ADSL - I certainly
received none. You will have to apply for ADSL as
soon as it becomes available via the website, and then
you will have to wait a few weeks (Telstra appears to
take that "10 business days" quite literally) before
someone contacts you regarding installation, and then
if you have my luck, your installation will occur at
the "earliest opportunity (for Telstra)", say three
weeks from there.

Mmm, a public service work ethic and accountability mixed
with a monopoly on infrastructure and a lack of need
to compete. Wonderful.

David (still waiting for his installation)

Hi Dave,
I have probably rung every number there is at Telstra from the Cleaning Lady
to the Cable Assigners. Since my little Exchange (RIM) is not yet
compatible, and running a line from my neighbour's RIM is not possible ,so I
was told, I will have to wait, and wait, and wait. The worst thing yet is
that nobody at Telstra could tell me when my exchange is due for upgrading.
What makes matters worse, is that my house is connected to system 12, or
Pair-Gain, as it is more commonly known.

Welcome to the year 2001.

What a joke!

No RIM's are ADSL compatible.

I think you are getting confused. System 12 is a type of exchange made by
Alcatel, while pair gain systems are used to squeeze more telephone lines
into existing cable in the street. They are not related.

Well what ever, I am just a dumb ass Telstra Customer getting bombarded with
funny word and terms.

What it all comes down to is I cannot get ADSL and nobody knows when in the
future I can get it.

Hey there David, long time no hear.

I noticed my exchange was ready 2-3 weeks ago, signed the form, got an email a day
or two later, another about 8 days later asking to ring for a booking...
which is this coming Tuesday.
I can't wait to ditch these wonderful 26.4k connects I get on the second line.
