Whilst it is already possible to set up a mail client for Gmail, POP 3 is
more than welcome of course!

----------------------------------------------------------
Just Launched!

It's your mail. You should be able to choose how and where you read it.
Access your mail the way you want to, with free POP access and automatic
forwarding. You can even switch to other email services without having to
worry about losing access to your messages. Think of it as email
portability.

* Free POP access
Download your messages. Read them offline. Use your Blackberry or
Outlook or just the good ol' web.

* Free automatic forwarding
Forward new incoming messages to any email account you specify.
------------------------------------

Mind you... buggered if I can find any info on the SETTINGS for POP3 access
anywhere!

Thanks for the links anyway Pete.

FYI, these are the required pop and smpt settings - (before they can be used
you must log in & enable pop3 support in your Gmail settings):

Incoming Mail (POP3) Server ? requires SSL: pop.gmail.com
Use SSL: Yes
Port: 995
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server ? requires TLS: smtp.gmail.com (use
authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
Port: 465 or 587
Account Name: your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com')
Email Address: your full Gmail email address (user...@gmail.com)
Password: your Gmail password

Cheers,

I found those to be a bit buggy anyway... although it appears that Gmail
have jumped the gun a little when they announced this, maybe it´ll take
time to filter through to everyones accounts.

Just wait. It's being rolled out. Once you see the settings you have it :)
On to read the rest of the messages where someone is bound to have said the
above.

I was offered accounts on both but had no need. Now Gmail is going POP3 I
will probably get one.

Let´s hope it remains free. Frankly, I don´t know why they would keep POP3
a free service in the long term? What do they get out of it?
