Billy Bragg/Amanda Vincent

I caught the Billy Bragg concert here on Saturday night, it was very
good althought different to the last time he played here in '89. The
show on Saturday was more polished and was more Billy Bragg plus his
band, rather than Billy Bragg and a couple of backing musician. Also
the show was more politically oriented , with Billy taking time out to
talk about political issues much more than the last time he was touring.
i.e. the intro to "there is power in a union " consisted of a 10 minute
talk about APPM.

One interesting point was that their keyboard player , Amanda Vincent,
was from Perth W.A. ( the rest of the band being from England). I was of
the opinion that Cara Tivey was going to be playing keyboards on this
tour. Does anybody know anything about this ? Also does anybody know
anything about Amanda i.e. what bands she is/was in.

Amanda Vincent was in Eurogliders. They released four albums,
Pink Suit Blue Day, This Island (which included the single Heaven(must be
there), Absolutely and one other with just two of the band.(Grace Knight
and the main songwriter who has slipped my memory) After the band split up,
she went overr to England and played with Van Morrison and someone else
who also slips my memory at the moment(sorry I am very vague today). Late
last year she was asked to tour with Billy Bragg and she accepted.

I spoke to a friend of mine who had some inside knowledge about those persons who you were asking about and here is his reply:

Cara Tivey has up until recently been touring extensively with Billy Bragg worldwide. She was given the opportunity to rest at home with her two young children and so she did. Cara said that she did not spend much time with her family, and so took up the opportunity.

Amanda Vincent played in the now defunct Perth band Eurogliders, who we all know had Grace Knight as the lead vocalist. And what a great band they were! Amanda played keyboards (as she did with Billy!!) in Eurogliders, so she's a bit of a legend in the Australian music scene (I'm not being sarcastic here kiddies - I truly loved them).

We all loved Billy's concerts in Sydney and it's great to see that he took the time to go down and play for our Tassie friends.

Bernie Lynch was/is the songwriter for Eurogliders. Yes Amanda is a legend, also one of the first female keyboard / synthesizer players in the music industry when playing with the Eurogliders and prior to them with Tim Finn<of Split Enz & Crowded House Fame. Eurogliders still exist, tour nationally and record, as does Grace Knight solo in her jazz band <she was originally from Scotland, immigrating to Perth Australia around 1980ish. Amanda is also credited with playing with Jenny Morris, Boy George, Van Morrison, Moodswingers, Billy Bragg and Camelle Hinds, consistently recording for well over 30years.
