There's a demo at the Millenium Hotel tonight and I thought I'd pass along
a press release that the Chaos people are putting out relevant to the
release of the new Liquid Audio driven download service for Australian
artists.

Media Release - EMBARGOED UNTIL May 6th 1998

Chaos Music Market - celebrating a revolution in Australian music delivery

Sydney Australia - Chaos Music Market, launched today, presents a new
vehicle for the promotion and sale of Australian music to the massive
market of online consumers. The launch heralds the release of Australia's
first comprehensive Internet music delivery tool. Technology partners for
the project include OzEmail Limited, Microsoft and Liquid Audio.

1998 has seen the Australian music industry swarming with new talent, and
yet it is rife with controversial talk of parallel importations, suffering
a slump in retail sales and is divided over Internet copyright protection.
Enter a young development company, Chaos MultiMedia, specialising in music
delivery systems. Today, celebrating the launch of Chaos Music Market (beta
2 version 2.0), CEO Rob Appel comments:

"After four years riding the frontier of Internet music, CMM is proud to
launch the first, world-class, online solution for the Australian music
industry. We offer a new generation of publishing methods to local artists
and labels and aim to drive international sale and promotion of Australian
music to new heights."

CMM (www.cmm.com.au) was formed in 1994 - at its foundation was a small
online CD catalogue. Over a two year period, the site maintained consistent
traffic and sales while the company built and managed websites for: the ABC
Recovery program, Phantom Records, Immersion Records, the OzOnline Gig
Guide and band Scattered Order.

Mid-1997, the organisation went into high gear and began to unroll its
vision: to create Australiaís most comprehensive music catalogue
integrated with a secure commercial server and an audio software system to
facilitate digital release. To realise, this vision CMM needed to form an
alliance with the right technology partners.

OzEmail Limited were first to partner with the company, bringing the
largest online user base in Australia into direct contact with music
published through CMM. OzEmail Vice President Michael Ward comments:

"Websites like CMM will help transform the consumer landscape and encourage
greater adoption and use of the Internet."

Microsoft were also enthusiastic about supporting the pioneer company. Over
a nine month development period, CMM integrated a vast suite of Microsoft
products to achieve their goals including: Microsoft Windows NT Server
4.0, Internet Information Server 4.0, Commerce Server 2.0 and SQL Server 6.5.

In late 1997, Appel began searching the ëwired communityí for the worldís
best audio software. The quest ended with Liquid Audio, a software capable
of delivering powerful copyright protection and CD quality sound. Liquid
Audio (www.liquidaudio.com) is a San Francisco-based company focused
exclusively on developing software tools and technologies to enable the
secure online preview and purchase of CD-quality music, while ensuring
copyright protection and tracking royalties. CMMís adoption of the Liquid
Audio technology is an Australian first.

Chaos Music Market (beta 2 version 2.0) is the first of many upgrades to
the system. CMM also intends to develop customised versions for music
industry clients.

ìCMM has been through the learning curve developing music delivery
technology. That experience can now be passed to all levels of the
industryî says Appel.

Artists and labels can publish and distribute to an international audience
at no upfront cost. The opportunities are immense for labels and
distributors to offer both back catalogue and new releases in hard copy or
digital format.

Appel continues:

ìCMM offers copyright owners full control and protection over their
product, by achieving reproduction, distribution and retail within one
transaction.î

The site features more than an audio player and a simple ordering system -
it is graphically rich, generates dynamic charts, and contains music
reviews, artist/band profiles and gossip. More importantly, visitors are
encouraged to add their own reviews, gossip and links to related band sites.

Tonight at the Xu Bar and Bistro, Chaos Music Market will be officially
launched. The celebrations showcase local talent including Skunkhour,
Margot Smith, Telegraph Pole, Karma County and King Curly. A Q&A panel will
discuss issues pertaining to the music industry and the Internet. Panel
members include: Chair - Phil Tripp (IMMEDIA! Publisher); Rob Appel (CEO
CMM); Michael Ward (Vice President - OzEmail); Richard Mallett (Broadcast
Online Services Manager APRA); Philip Meyer (Director of Internet Customer
Unit Microsoft) and Charlie Chan (Artist).
