I too heard the sad news about Andy and have been trying to find out
more. Here are a couple of items from the papers that mention his
suicide. I'd be interested to know more if you find anything.
I'm sure Andy and Stevie (Plunder) are busy catching up over a couple
of cold ones...
Music stalwart dies

THE Australian music scene has lost one of its stalwarts.
Andy Lewis, a member of the jazz rock trio the Gadflys, died in Sydney
last weekend.
The band and their management issued a statement yesterday.
``It is with deep sorrow that the Gadflys and management announce the
death of their good friend and legendary long-time bass player Andy
Lewis.
``All our thoughts are with his family. He will be sadly missed and
fondly remembered by us all.''
The Gadflys regularly played during the Melbourne Comedy Festival, and
performed the theme tune to TV show Good News Week.
Lewis was also a member of chart-topping band the Whitlams in the
early '90s.
His death was not suspicious.
Andy's death a sad note

THE music industry is both shocked and saddened by the death of Andy
Lewis, bass player for pop-jazz outfit The Gadflys.
Lewis, aged in his mid-30s, had financial and personal problems and
took his own life.
The two remaining members, brothers Mick and Phil Moriarty, are
devastated and reluctant to comment, a spokesman said.
``Phil and Mick are very upset and will miss him a lot,'' the group's
management spokesman said yesterday.
``The guys were part way through an album project, they were up to the
final mixing stage and obviously Andy was all the way through it so it
will be hard work.
``The album, their fifth I think, was due to be finished this Friday.
We are all very upset about it, he was very close to us and to a lot of
people.''
The Gadflys gained national notice after a number of high-selling
albums and a regular gig as house band on the Ten Network's Good News
Week.
The funeral is to be held in Canberra this week.
