Yes. And no.
It appears that Zimmer alone has been nominated for the Oscar for Best
Original Score, thanks to an inexplicable rule still in place for
nominations in this category. From the Sydney Morning Herald today
(originating from AAP):
"Australian composer, Lisa Gerrard, who shared a Golden Globe for the
score of Gladiator with composer Hans Zimmer, missed out on an Oscar nod
even though the score of the film and Zimmer are nominated. Oscar
spokesman Robert Rehme said only the primary composer can win an Academy
Award. 'Contributors and arrangers are not eligible for Oscars,' said
Rehme. 'If he (Zimmer) wins he can thank her.'
How gracious of Mr Rehme.
He asserts that Lisa Gerrard was a mere "contributor or arranger". The
film's main credits, however, clearly state: "Music by Hans Zimmer and
Lisa Gerrard". Not "with". Not "including contributions by". She's
equally billed, and deserves to be nominated alongside Zimmer. Zimmer
and Gerrard *collaborated* on the score.
It's worth nothing that no such rule applies to "Best Original Song" -
or, indeed, "Best Picture".
The Academy needs to stop hiding behind supposed "tradition" and change
their obviously bizarre "rules".

Spot on. If the Academy can award Matt damon and Ben Affleck the Oscar
equally for 'Giood Will Hunting' why do you have a different rule for
Original Score.
Michael.

Just for the record, by the way, that was meant to read "It's worth
noting that..."
Another case of that Bad Typing Resulting In Words That Pass The Spell
Checker syndrome. :)

Change the rules when it suits an aussie. What a great idea. Also
really fair to those that have had to win or lose based on these same
rules in the past.
I wasn't making ANY comment on past nominees in this category - this is
the first time this "rule" has been brought to my attention.
Obviously any past collaborators who missed out were screwed as well. My
comments had NOTHING to do with Lisa's country of origin, and everything
to do with the fact that she did the work, shares the credit on the
actual film prints, and deserves the nomination.

No I am not.
