It's a combination of paints/pearls and costs a truckload (like something
in the region of $900 per liter)

<SNIP>

It's actually called "PEARL" ring any local repairer and they should be
charging over $1500 for a full paint job.

The bike repair/repaint shop next to Shogun in Moss St (B&B?) have a ute
painted in it - presumably a good place to look. I've seen a CBR250 getting
around that has the paint on it, looks pretty good!

Yep thats about right price wise. then there's labour to add to it and of
course the standard "mechanics $500" for whatever the fugg.

Was going to get the TL done but went off the idea when I saw every wog and
his dog with it on their cars.

Depends where you get, but it ranges from 500 to a 1000 bucks a litre.
Beware however ppl saying they only need 3 or 4 hundred mls to paint a bike.
It need closer to 1 litre to do properly. If you go to Standox distributor
in your local area you should be able to look at pics and colour cards.
Standox have a range and it is totally different from pearl. The name
depends on the particular colours involved. From memory there is Kyalami
flash, Interlagos fire, Catalunya splash, Imola Ice, Daytona Paradise and
Monte Carlo Magic which is probably the best with green, blue, purple and
black.

But that is just the Standox stuff. The every wog and his dog stuff is I
believe a PPG paint, which may very well be Chameleon but it is getting a
bit common, especially around Bankstown...

Paint , Dulux (PPG ),Standox have a selection of colours and the price
well $1000.00 a litre is a bit much but then again there is gold fleck mixed
in and it is harder to paint than the pearls. Hope it helps

Ah, the old harlequin paints from Dulux. Imagine painting your house in it!
Then again, at one THOUSAND dollars per litre...well, I think not.

Christ! For that money, buy a tin of blackboard paint, some
coloured chalk and a couple of tabs of acid ...

While we're on the topic of paint, does anyone know a stripper
which will remove paint from fuel tanks? Bloody citristrip
doesn't do a damn thing!

Had it on a car ( pretty sure it was called "pearl " )_and the car varied
from black to green but a bird shit on the car and it went straight through
the paint ( claimed it on warranty and they paid up )

The Old Girl is a candy apple red over gold, in the shadow it's a sort
of maroon, in the light it's a metallic dark red.

No, but I met a hooker once who said she'd do anything for $50, so I handed
over the cash and told her to paint my house. Maybe she could be convinced
to remove your paint in the nude.

It's the colour on the tank, cover and oil tank of the Norton P11 I'm restoring.
My understanding is the candy apple red goes over a metallic silver base, with
lotsa clear on top. Matchless G80CS's etc of this period were painted the same
colour.

I saw a stripper once that would peel the paint off your fuel tank.
(and the 8 feet of pearl necklace she kept in the strangest place.)

Well, not that simple. There are many, many coats because they are thinned
out by a huge margin. Takes forever to paint but you can get some magical
work.

Actually, the stripper to which I refer was at the 93 Stone Rally.
Anyone go on the rally and remember that show and are prepared to comment?

Let me refresh your memories, 2 shows, 3 girls, late show featured girls
with toys.
There was Santas helper with big black one in her toy sack, the fire torch
girl that seemed not not feel flame and left black soot all over her girly
bits, and then my favorite (as mentioned) the girl with the huge pearl
necklace.

Now that was a memorable show, and strangely very classy.
Left the 98 Stone rally strippers for dead. (except for Jaden.)

I think it's made by Standox.

It's mica based. Also known as Harlequin paint.

A quick search on Google turned these up...

Thanks all for replys about paint & strippers ;)
most replys for any post ive had
i was thinking of getting a SV650S done because
i dont like the yellow or blue they come in
prefer the red or silver thats available in usa or europe
but at a $1000 a litre plus labor its a bit expensive
ill give the paint guy a ring and post cost at later date.

Anyone had any luck in getting bike ordered in clours that
were not part of the official australian colour range?

here is some pics of sv650 with harlequin paint $US600 a pint.

I think they've been more adventurous with paint schemes instead. A lot of
modern bikes look like the rider vomited down the side of the bike, at
speed.

You'd have Buckley's chance of getting one through the supplier. Once they
decide colours (due to "market forces" according to Kawasaki) it's pretty
much set in stone - at least until they change their minds.
