Info came from an MRAQ meeting a couple of weeks ago. Apparently also
under consideration to go before Parliament are compulsory flouro
safety vests over whatever you're wearing, and a further lowering of
sound levels for bike exhausts.
No, I'm not a member, I went along because of the Motorcycle Awareness
Week ride (all local bike clubs have been invited to attend), however
after hearing some of the political goings-on, I'm thinking about it -
the MRAQ has 5 members trying to look out for Qld motorcyclists.
If you're interested email them - I'm sure Dave will fill you in on

Again, of no consequence. In any case, aerodynamics aren't all that
critical at legal highway speeds.
Still, if this becomes an issue, I hope you folks (who are in Vic) are
all MRA members.

One thing came out of the meeting of the MRA I went to last year was that if
we want to put a stop to this coming about we have to find a valid reason.

Queensland puts the onus on the vehicle owner and has since cameras first
came in.
There are quite a few of them cameras on top of tall poles, all along
the free^H^H^H^Htoll way.
They aren't speed cameras - they're basically CCTV cameras so some guy
in a room full of tv screens can watch the traffic flow, and update
those electronic signs that say "X minutes to Y road". (If you've
seen the odd news segment about citylink, and they show some dark room
filled with TV screens, that's them.)

Does seem a bit silly.
Tell me, for those who frequenct Citylink. On the outbound lanes, about
2 km before Toorak Road, there's what appears to be a camera mounted on
a 15-20 metre pole facing the traffic. Does anyone know its purpose?

That's all well and good for you. Hope you slept well. Now I won't,
seeing as you've fired me up, and sent waves of depression over me....
.. If you think nobody cares, try missing a few payments.
As for the noise and safety vest agendas they have been banging around for

For faired bikes, I can't see it being too difficult to afix a number
plate inside the windscreen. That is how it was on my bikini faired

Still, I hope that they don't try it. If nothing else, it would look

Doesn't work that way here in Qld. The owner of the vehicle is legally
responsible if the driver cannot be identified.
The onus is on the owner to know who is using their vehicle and at what
times/dates.
Hopefully the newly formed Australian Motorcycle Federation (combined group
of industry, sport and riding groups) will have some political pull, however
it needs the support of the riders at this basic level. We need to support

In Vic, the onus has ALWAYS been on the owner to 'fess up. Dunno what
Tony's talking about.
At work, it's been decreed that if anyone who's driving a company car
gets flashed, then it's the responsibility of the supervisor who's in
charge of that particular car to find out who the culprit is. If he
can't, he wears the fine. We're supposed to sign a log book every time
we go off site, but this hasn't been happening. Because of that, the
above's been implemented.
I personally don't know how that's stand up in court if the supervisor
decided to challenge it, particularly if someone found a speed camera
and decided to be spiteful.
It sort of takes away the "innocent til proved guilty" concept, I
reckon. If someone's driving a car that is registered to you, you cop
the fine if you honestly don't know who was driving it. I've heard of
people getting fines for offences that they could not have possibly
committed, because they were not there, or the car's plate was
misinterpreted, or whatever. One lady rang in to the ABC one morning
complaining that her elderly father had gotten a fine for speeding. The
poor bugger doesn't own a car. Apparently, someone has a car registered
to his name, yet when they complained, neither the police nor Vicroads
were interested in doing anything about it.

Unfortunately, Melanie, Melvin or whoever you are, in Victoria, it
doesn't work that way. The onus is on you to prove who the driver was.
If you can prove conclusively that you were somewhere else at the time,
then perhaps. But this means you're in court, defending your, or
someone else's actions.
