Set the motor to top dead centre with the camshft lobes pointing out
(front forward and rear back away from each other). Remove the cam chain
tensioner and then unbolt the camshaft caps and remove the camshafts.
There is usually enough slack to remove the cam shafts without removing
the sprockets. Make sure that the alignment marks on the sprockets are
in line with the head top surface when the motor is at top dead centre
or you may also be looking for a bent valve. When you go to put it back
together reset the tensioner to the fully compressed position. You have
to remove the spring and fiddle the lock mechanism to compress it. Bolt
everything together and then before you move the crank refit the
tensioner spring.
Remember ALWAYS USE A TORQUE WRENCH. The cost of the helecoils to repair
the damage will more than pay for it.
