of course :)

Buy 2 more relays and plug them in the emty slots.

Because of some stupid European regulation.

Phil
Q: Only my right headlight is used for dipped beam, and the left one for
main (high) beam. Can the lights be rewired so that both work on dipped and
both are used for hi-beam? ?
A: Yes. On 99 STs, you will need to order the set of two by-pass leads,
which consist of a white plastic connector block and twin black shorting
leads. These plug into the respective connectors coming from each headlamp
unit, under the left and right sides of the upper fairing, just next to each
headlamp unit (access from the space between handlebars and the dash). These
cost about DM12,- (6 euros)
On 2000+ STs, you will need to fit two relays, part number T2500234.
On the RS model, you will need two relays, part number T2500233
Do not fit part number T2500235 as they will lead to a flat battery
(Thanks to lister Roger Downham for this info)

Joe..my '01 RS Sprint had both lights wired in during predelivery. It isn't
a big job,,go and see your local Triumph dealer.

G'day Joe,
all you have to do is have a look under the dash on the right hand side
behind the headlights and you will see 2 empty relay sockets, go and buy
2-30amp relays from your local parts supply and that will fix it straight
away, the kind of relays that you would use for wiring in driving lights are
what you want.
and yes it is due to a European bloody regulation that they are like that
from the factory.
enjoy your sprint...I know I do...

Thanks for your help guys.
A couple of relays shouldn't pose too much of a problem. I'll order them on
the first service and get them to do it.
Any input from people that live in Melbourne on good mechanics? I've heard
pretty good things about Turn One Motorcycles in Nth Melb. Anyone else back
that up??
Cheers

Yeah if one blows you still have one functional low beam.
My old ZZR11 had one globe in the headlight. It projected a piss poor
beam and for a 280 km/h bike, I thought that this was an abysmal idea.
The CBR1000 has twin globe setup and the light's a lot better. 100 km/h
in relative safety is now possible for night riding. With the ZZR I used
to avoid riding at night, because of the shit light. Plus, where I live,
it's a regular nature reserve out on the roads going to work.

Jo> Why would they have gone away from twin low and high? Battery, o/load

The size of the battery is really irrelevant. The alternator would be
doing the work. As for overloading the electrics, I can't imagine the
engineers underdesigning it, whether it be wiring, alternator capacity
or whatever. The extra load is only 55 watts. Of course, if it's a pommy
bike, then anything's possible. a 100 years of Lucas electrics and
english tradition is hard to shake (I presume that the modern trumpys
don't have Lucas electrics).
I'd say that it'd be cost. Smaller alternator, slightly less demand on
wiring, cheaper fittings, etc. Might be an indicator to how the
company's going, perhaps, if they're starting to cheapen progressive
models.

Do you know what the regulation is? And what about the US? Do we get the
Euro spec bike?
