Motorcycle champion's son killed at raceway
From AAP
20apr98
THE 17-year-old son of former motorcycle champion Malcolm Campbell was
killed while taking part in a rider safety course at a raceway near
Launceston yesterday.
Kris Campbell suffered multiple injuries when he crashed into a wall
at the Symmons Plains track, police said.
The up-and-coming young rider was hoping to follow in the footsteps of
his father, who was five times Australian superbike champion.
He made his debut against his father and elder brother Scott at the
Tasmanian 600 cc championships last year.
Tasmanian Motorcycle Club competition secretary Jenny Monks, who was
at the track when the accident happened, told the Launceston Examiner
that Kris, Scott and youngest brother Aaron were fixtures at motorcycle
competitions.
She said the club had conducted dozens of courses similar to the one
yesterday.

Shocking news. Having recently gone through something similar with the death
of my brother-in-law in a motorcycle accident, I really feel for the Campbell
family.

Aside from being very sad to hear this, I'm rather shocked. This was apparently
a road-license training course. People should not be slamming into walls
and dieing on license training days...
