Installing a set of progressive springs but they didn't come with
directions.
Does it make any different which way up they go eg. soft windings at top
or bottom?

Put the coils that are first to go coil-bound (the ones closest
together) at the end where they do not uselessly add to unsprung weight
- at the top.

Thanks I never thought of that.
Would the fork oil volume need to be different from my factory setup?
If there's less windings in the springs at the bottom then the oil level
would be lower than original.
Is there a rule to determine the correct oil volume or is it trial and
error?

That's getting down to some detail!
I wouldn't have thought the exact level is critical, within a centimetre
or so? Maybe use a piece of wire as a dipstick, to check the height of
the correct amount of oil when fitted with the standard spring?
