Well I can probably rule out the ones in Blacktown City Council area
because I have travelled all of those roads there and at one stage or
another have sped there for one reason or another.... no fines yet.

Just a quick question to the Sydneysiders - has anyone here ever been done
by a permanent speed camera? (i.e. received a ticket in the mail) I heard
some extremely interesting gossip tonight originating from Traffic
Operations in Sydney, and I'm curious to confirm it.

There are none in the Sydney area at the moment. Apparently there are two
somewhere on the central or north coast. This subject came up last year
and is still not true.

I disagree. There is one on Delhi Rd (Ryde is the suburb I think). I go
past it everyday. Recently they seem to have completely covered it up so
now I'm curious to hear what that gossip was :). I haven't been caught
by it yet but seriously I think they are a waste of money. As soon as
everyone knows where they are revenue must drop considerably.

Cheers

Sorry but you're WRONG!

They did install permanent camera's in several locations. But not
minature ones and they do flash. The one i'm sure of is on Woy Woy Rd
(NSW Central Coast)> they installed a couple of months ago, and recently
coming home - I pass it every day - the RTA were there testing it. It was
taking pictures - flashing - at every car going past, no matter that they
were travelling slower than the 80km limit.
They did have a sign up saying they were testing, but i still would have
remembered the day if i was flashed in case a got a letter a month later
when it may have slipped my mind :)

Yea, I have seen that one. There are two poles, one with what looks like
the camera and another smaller one that looks like it has the sensor in
it. I would not be supprised if someone snuck up behind it at 2:00am in
the morning and put a coat of black paint over the small lense. There is
only bush behind it and its quite isolated.

I have never seen one before so I tried to have a good look each time I
went past it last week.

The Baulkham hills one doesn't exist either.

That list came out a year or more ago, seems to have resurfaced.

I tried looking at the NSW Police service web site
(http://www.police.nsw.gov.au) to find an email so that we could confirm
or deny once and for all if these things exist, but there is not one email
address!

I then tried looking through AUSTLII for info re speed cameras,
(specifically the requirements to set them up....) but couldn't see
anything specific.... mind you, did see that digital speed cameras are
admisable in court... and they have a built in verification thingy (that's
technical talk!).

One is on the back route to Woy Woy on Woy Woy road. Says
"Camera in use 24 hours per day" or some such thing. Just like
the one on Delhi Road that is "Wrapped in plastic" at the moment.

I thought I saw a gadget once that held a spray can on a pole.
You could spray for spiders (camera lenses) etc. in remote
difficult to get at areas.

Yeah - but like you'd go to Woy Woy!!!

There are 2 on the Hume between Gundagai and Tarcutta - warning signs
saying your speed will be checked 24 hours a day, adn another sign
colser to the camera. Mind you, they're so big you can't miss them.

The info I got was that all the speed cameras in NSW at present are active
(ie taking pix of speeders) but as they are all on trial (no tender has yet
been granted to any company to supply and maintain the cameras) no fines
have been issued from them. Of course, this could change at any time, and
obviously there will be no public notification that this is the case either.

I've still yet to hear from anyone that has actually been fined from a fixed
camera in NSW, which would prove my source as wrong.
