First, let me say I like thumpers & I know that the Cagiva isn't the most
powerful one out there. However, it is a road oriented single & nice
looking. I had never seen one until a trip to a dealership. I could not
find any reviews of this bike on the WWW magazines.

Has anybody ridden one? Likes/Dislikes? What would you expect for
secondhand price?

It looks like it has nice brakes & fat forks. I saw a 2nd hand for sale in
Trading Post a few months ago for $5900 which may make it a cheaper
alternative than a new MuZ. Reliability would be an issue for me though.

Haven't ridden one, but I've been seeing one sitting in Fraser's for two years
without finding a taker. It's probably a nice little bike, but don't expect it
to have any resale value.

Hmm, well this one was sitting at Aus. Dirtbike Sales (brizzie); don't know
how long for. I'm not keen on bikes with no resale or that would be hard
to get rid of/trade-in at a later date. I guess it depends on how much
someone wants for it. I don't know how the Muz's are selling, I'd be
interested to know.

I also like the KTM Duke - again the thumper theme, only with trick
suspension, etc. But they are $$ new. I suppose another idea would be to
try to make your own "super-mottard" out of a dual-purpose bike; but I have
no idea where you find the information to make the conversion- or which
bike would be best to convert.

You see SRX-600s now and then for sale, but they're getting on in years now
and hard to find a good example.

The search continues...

Apparently it has the same engine as the Cagiva W16 trail bike (More
of a road bike). A River without a fairing I think.

Sidetrack magazine didn't like it because it stripped a starter gear
when they were riding it.

My Dad bought a W16 a couple of weeks ago due to its low price
$4600 and it's only one year old) and it had only travelled 3000 or so
kms.

They were selling for $9999 from the local Ducati dealer when it was
new. The dealer sold twelve of them in the area, but they still
haven't sold their River.

His bike, (according to the seller) stripped the starter gear three
times in the time he had it, but Cagiva say they've now fixed the
problem.

I'm not sure how different the two bikes would ride, but the W16 rides
very nicely on the road, alot lighter to handle then japanese 600's as
the weight sits pretty low in the frame.

The brakes are the best I have used (I've only ridden trail bikes
though) and the general feel of the bike is it is well made. The tail
light plastics are pretty brittle.

Cagiva's seem to drop alot in value when second hand, if you were to
get one, it might be better value to get a good condition 2nd hand one
and save a few thousand...

I'll stay with Japanese 600's myself.

If you haven't seen it, interesting review on www.bikenet.com on the duke.
