Does Anyone know any answer to this problem.

Every time I reboot my Power Book I find that there is loss of functionality
to my USB peripherals (Firewire Card and Key board works fine). The reboot
will result in the USB's coming back on working fine. There after every odd
reboot will result in the USB turned off. Log in and sleep and reawakening
does not affect this state. Overall system has remained stable. No viruses
have been detected with NAV. First Aid and terminal fsck don't show any
significant problem.

I have PB G3 400mhz (Bronze Key broad) 320mB Ram. OS X 10.1.4 Firewire wire
external drive (80GB) via PCMICA card. Both USB ports are connected one with
a 4 port USB hub, and other MS Mouse. Cable connection via router.

When had a quick look on Mac Fixit didn't find anything.

Any constructive comments appreciated.

Cheers Paul

It's one of the grey Intellimouse Explorers, isn't it?

I had the same thing here (G4 450, OS 9.0.4, but a USB keyboard as
well). Try it for a while with the original (admittedly annoying) Apple
mouse and see if you still get the problem. I've changed to one of the
white M$ mice, and it seems to be ok so far (touch wood)!

Steve.

IME the cables on the M$ explorers are weak - shorting out regularly at the
mouse junction.

I don't think that's the problem, as the same grey mouse that used to
flake out regularly on the G4 is now running quite happily on the PC
next to it, through the USB to serial converter that came with the mouse.
