hey all,

was just wondering if anybody had any advice to give on what type of mac
you'd buy if you were using it for the following:

1) software development (what compiler/language would you use?)

2) web development

3) graphic design

4) video editing

Very broad questions i realise but it's been awhile. need to purchase a mac
soon for a project.

your advice would be much appreciated.

Regards,
G.

If you can afford it a G4 - bottom of the range 733MHz machine would be
fine.

If you're interested in getting up and running quickly, RealBasic is
probably the best game in town. It can also cross-compile for Windows.
Free demo available through http://www.streetwise.net.au

A G4 stands up well as most graphics programs are optimized for the G4
processor. This gives significant performance gains over the G3
processor found in the iMac.

If you're going to get serious about video editing a G4 is the only way
to go. It sounds like you are interested in serious editing, which
usually means Final Cut Pro. With the G4 you can add a second monitor
and card if necessary (you don't have this option with an iMac) and if
you end up being a serious final cut user you'll find a second monitor
almost essential.
