Hi,

few weeks ago there was a thread about personal ( fun) vehicles like Segways and powered scooters. Seems no-one looked up the actual law in NSW or elsewhere.

With the sole exception of " e-bikes " they are ALL banned from roads AND footpaths.

https://www.nsw.gov.au/topics/vehicle-registration/unregistered-vehicles/rules/prohibited

Used to be a few petrol powered bicycles around here once - but I have not seen one for years. A fine of about $700 is possible for breaking the prohibition.

Think a lot of teenagers do know about the law either.

See how I take care of you? Fair warning!

The teen creatures will have their parents pay any fines.

Should the sellers of these devices warn their customers?

Seems hard to believe. I see heaps of powered skooters around Sydney.

** Going by their web sites - some do and others don't.

I see teens or 20 somethings on e-scooters using the footpaths and crossing roads as needed almost daily.
None are wearing helmets nor do the machines seem to have warning bells.
Fast, silent & deadly.

Suspect the police ignore them, as most carry no ID and so are a PITA to prosecute.

People can be arrested for the purpose of ascertaining ID.

Not practical with kids with minor offenses like not wearing a helmet etc.

In the good old days the Police would visit schools and lecture
classes on the road rules.

In one class the cop got into a heated argument with a 12yo about
which bike mud-guard colour was most effective for night visibility.
The kid said chrome, the cop said white. All very amusing.

They need to Remove this Law and stop banning scooters.

They banned UBER 7 years ago, and now it's legal.

Same deal here.

If noone follows the law, the law needs to be expunged.

** False "if" statement.
Massive false reasoning.

Noodle is completely fucked in the head.
