Hi all,
After years of tough money-juggling and a slow, paced,
piece-by-piece, building of a decent home-theater system, I finally
need to get the final purchase, a decent TV.

Although all the parts are now relatively outdated, I'm still very
pleased with the quality.
A Pioneer VSX-D906S receiver, a Pioneer DV515 DVD, Wharfdale speakers,
Energy sub etc…

Anyhow, only the TV is a piece of crap, and I finally decided, and
have saved up, to buy a good TV.

I decided that the best TV size for my needs is 34"-36", NOT
widescreen and of excellent video quality.

I generally tend to get a Loewe Calida 5784 ZP (33"), but still have a
few questions:

1. What the HELL is the difference between the Calida and the Arcada?!
Why would I want to pay so much more for the Arcada?!?! Aren't they
basically the same?!

2. IS my choice a good one? IS the Loewe the best quality TV?! (Mind
you – I don't give a rat's ass about design and set appearance, ONLY
viewing quality!

There are also the Toshiba 34AX9, and the Sony 34FQ75, which both cost
more.. Is the Loewe indeed the better of the three..?!

TO SUM UP: I think I explained my dilemmas quite well, and if you
have any insight/commets, please HELP! :-)

Thanks!

Pick-up a catalogue from your Loewe dealer, it should have an insert with
specs in it. The main differences according to the *2001* catalogue are:
-Arcada has media plus chassis which can have upgrade cards put in such as
VGA or digital TV (when they make one for Aus).
-Arcada has their premium digital processing whereas Calida has their
standard.
-Arcada has better sound (not relevant as you will use your receiver).
-Arcada has one extra input and can accept component video not just RGB
(there is some debate over whether the Loewes convert everything to s-video
before displaying, but their s-video is excellent anyway).

You might want to check as the new Calidas might have the media plus
chassis. The 2001 specs say the Cantus doesn't have it but someone on this
ng bought one and it did.

The biggest factor is what your eyes tell you. If you can, take in your DVD
player and VCR and plug them in and decide on the picture quality side by
side. It would be a shame to pay for extra technical specs if you can't see
a difference.

I think Loewe are great quality and their aftersales service and three year
in home warranty are fantastic.
Good luck
Ben

If you don't get a widescreen set, you'll be very sorry later.
