Is the War Over Yet - SACD vs DVD Audio?

Sorry. I was away for a year and didn't follow what actually happened in
this arena.

Reason for the question: I'm in the market for my 2nd DVD. My first is a
cheap one ($299) and I am thinking of getting something better, especially
the audio side with the SACD/DVD-A format.

Pioneer, Marantz, Onkyo, Linn, Yamaha, Teac and Denon all have out
'universal' players that can handle both SACD and DVD-A (and DVD-V).
IIRC Pioneer have one for $800 (there's one for $400 o/s but I don't
know if it's here) ranging up to Linn at $20K. More are announced all
the time.

Theres a new Phillips DVD/Sacd Player (model 963 something I think) which has
just been reviewed in a couple of English Publications that(naturally ) got
great reviews, but it does play everything & the price in pounds looked pretty
good.

I thought it was 972? There's a 963 as well, though. But neither play DVD-A.

No, Just checked the new Phillips 963 ??? plays everything & got great sound
reviews in another magazine - has'nt been released in Australia yet though,
very high quality construction/audio out etc.

The 963 doesn't play DVD-Audio.

No DVD-A on this puppy but the CD and SACD playback are excellent. The PAL
progressive picture is the BIG winner with this player though.

They are available at total home entertainment in Blackburn, VIC.
