Moira,
I lived in Canada for several years and the whole time I was there, I don't
recall there being a national flower. The beaver is the national emblem. As
is the maple leaf. Red & white are the national colours. As far as flowers,
each province has their own provincial flower, i.e., B.C. has the dogwood,
Alberta the wild rose, Ontario the trillium, etc. But I doubt that Canada
has a flower of its own. It's a big country with amazingly diverse geography
& ecosystems from province to province, which is probably why there are
provincial flowers, versus one for the whole country.
I could be wrong though. Maybe there's some obscure piece of Canadian trivia
that says the national flower is ... such and such. The arms of Canada has
the four flowers of the monarchy along the bottom: the English rose, the
Scottish thistle, the French fleur-de-lis, and the Irish shamrock. Other
than that, I don't know of any single national flower.
