Can any bright gardener out there please tell me what the Canadian National
Flower (not the maple leaf) might be called and if possible a brief
description of colour and appearance. Thanks, Moira

Thanks for that suggestion Simon - when I looked it up on the web I found an
excellent page with pictures but it appears to be the state emblem of
Georgia and doesn't mention anything about Canada. I will keep searching.
Regards

Moira,

I lived in Canada for several years and the whole time I was there, I don't
recall there being a national flower. The beaver is the national emblem. As
is the maple leaf. Red & white are the national colours. As far as flowers,
each province has their own provincial flower, i.e., B.C. has the dogwood,
Alberta the wild rose, Ontario the trillium, etc. But I doubt that Canada
has a flower of its own. It's a big country with amazingly diverse geography
& ecosystems from province to province, which is probably why there are
provincial flowers, versus one for the whole country.

I could be wrong though. Maybe there's some obscure piece of Canadian trivia
that says the national flower is ... such and such. The arms of Canada has
the four flowers of the monarchy along the bottom: the English rose, the
Scottish thistle, the French fleur-de-lis, and the Irish shamrock. Other
than that, I don't know of any single national flower.

ok - sorry bout that ! I just asked a Canadian pen pal and she wasn't sure
for the whole country - but Ontario was a trillium.

Thanks to Simon and Helena for their help. I believe it is the trillium I
was searching for as it was on a gift from Niagara Falls which I believe is
in Ontario so that would be the reason that particular flower was on the
item. I eventually found it on a web site and it does match the picture I
have. Thanks again - Moira
