Apart from pouring boiling hot water on the nest ( impractical
application ) I would like to know if there is any way of destroying
the nest.
The main problem is that the nest is near a path my mother uses to
attend to a large collection of Cymbidium Orchids and the nasty
critters really make it dangerous even to walk, let alone stand still
and admire the orchids.

Som species of bullants are endangered and protected. Be careful what you
whack
with your stick.

I would use the same insecticide powder one uses for European wasp --
sprinkle it around and the ants will carry it down into the nest on
their legs, poisoning the next from inside. There are a couple of
brands, but Bayer is a well-known one.

An easy way to make life uncomplicated, label somebody so you can invoke
a whole lot of prejudice and feel okay about disregarding what they have
to say.. This attitude could only be borne out of ignorance IMHO

I wonder too . At what point do you take a species endangered status
seriously. When there's
someone there to count you killing it? When its cute enough to feel sorry
for? Or when its not
a nuisance to humans? Or is it a matter of size?
