I'm getting as bored with the Pulp Fiction questions that keep appearing
as the next person. But I've had this question in my head since I first saw
the film and have resisted adding to the PF Bandwidth hoping that
someone, somewhere would provide the answer. No luck I'm afraid so here
it is... (and I'll just bet that it's been answered already :-)

When Butch shoots Vincent, some sort of alarm or beeper goes off. What is
it? I thought it was just an alarm clock going off but if that's the
case, then Butch timed his shooting to perfection because it only starts
up just after Vincent gets filled with bullets. Is it some sort of alarm
that would warn Marcellus that one of his guys was down? Any ideas?

Answers on a postcard to... "What's in the Case?"

I thought it was Vincent's portable telephone, hit by a bullet, sitting in
his chest pocket ..

As other people have responded, I took it as a smoke alarm or possibly
the toaster finishing... My memory eludes me, but I think that it was
a toaster with pop tarts? (You know, those things that Dave Barry describes
as "Highly Flammable" :) If so, maybe Quentin T. is taking a minor shot at
Pop Tarts :) or maybe not.

I thought this was either a smoke alarm set off by smoke from the gun (not
particularly visible but smoke alarm sensors are pretty sensitive), or the toaster
that had just finished the pop tarts.

The alarm that goes off is a smoke/fire alarm. Remember the pop tart things
he's making? Well, he didn't. Left 'em in there to burn.

It was a smoke alarm. I noticed this right away because one time when
some freinds of mine and I were messing around with a pistol, it went off
twice and our smoke alarm went off. I thought it made the scene very
realistic.

Yes it was, it went off by accident from the gun smoke during the filming.

Its the smoke alarm set off by the smoke from those 15 or 20 rounds that
Butch pumped into Vega. You can see it right abve him(Butch) in the kitchen.

I think it was the Kellog's Pop Tarts (tm) Butch put in the toaster just
before he discovered Vincent's gun. If you remember, right after the
shooting, there is the sound of a toaster...well whatever it is a toaster
does when its done...and THEN you hear the smoke alarm.

Well I reckon it's the fumes coming out of the toilet that set the smoke
detector off...maybe Vincent's a curry lover ;)

Can anyone tell me the title of the book that John Travolta's
character was reading throughout Pulp FIction. From memory you
get a clear look at it when he gets shot in the toilet.

Would love to find out.
